More LORA picks

A couple more new free LORAs (‘style-guide plugins’) spotted among the daily tidal wave of anime character LORAs, for use with local AI image generation on your PC.

Ernst Haeckel LORA. For creating bookplates showing deep-sea creatures.

Books World LORA, for characters in proper libraries with lots of books on shelves. The demo images are almost all anime, but it looks like it should also cope with a ‘painted photoreal’ look.

A few more LORAs

A few more free LORAs, newly released and of possible interest to Tentaclii readers. For use with the free AI image-generator Stable Diffusion 1.5 on a PC.

Chriss Foss style LORA, for generating Chris Foss ‘wasp’ spaceships.

The Mist LORA, for deep mist with huge monsters looming out of it. Might work well with Lovecraftian shorelines?

Xenozoic Tales – v1.0 LORA, with a nice retro-comics inking style which may be suitable for 1950s pulp illustrations.

Also a rare (the only one?) Anaglyph Image Generator LORA. If you’re lucky, it will generate viable old-school 3D images of the type you view with red-blue glasses. Which may interest some. Perhaps combine with the new Psychedelic Landscape LORA for way-out-there 1970s posters / album-covers with depth?

Stable Diffusion 2.1 768 and Lovecraft

Does Stable Diffusion 2.1 768 know what Lovecraft looks like, with a simple name prompt of ((H.P. Lovecraft)) ? After all the hoo-ha about celebrity pictures and name-tagging being removed from the training of SD 2.x? Well… yes, sort of. The results are not bad, considering how few good pictures there are of him. But not great.

More LORAs

A couple more recent free LORAs, of possible interest to artists and/or RPG makers. A LORA is a ‘style plugin’ used for AI image generation with the free Stable Diffusion 1.5, which is run in free desktop software such as InvokeAI 3.x.

Paper Background makes drawings and plans on vintage paper, of obvious use for emulating field notes or dusty diagrams of dastardly devices. The demo images suggest diagrams, but it can obviously do far more. Might also be used at lower power in combination with the Bestiarum LORA, for making ‘naturalist field notebook’ type monster-spotting guides.

More sci-fi is UFOMaker, now also newly for SD 1.5. Not just your classic 1960s frisbee UFO, but “all types of UFOs and spaceships”.

Also, there’s new Python-based AI freeware that auto-translates comics other than Japanese manga. Such as Euro BDs.

The Poem

Lovecraft’s long and earliest ‘cosmic’ poem “The Poe-et’s Nightmare” (1916), as an AI generated video adaptation. The project…

aims to decode the poem’s innate symbolic space and to project it into a coherent visual realm with a surreal aesthetics of a graphic antique manuscript, abstracting away from the described events. Eventually, what we observe is a dialogue between the written unseen and the unspeakable evident. The collection consists of 304 unique pieces, one per verse line. Each piece is a 23-second video loop with sound.

Robot stories

With un-tethered mass-produced humanoid robots on the horizon of the real-world, I thought I might have a go at revisiting Asimov’s “Robot” stories, not having re-read them for so long that I’ve forgotten them. Other than to recall that they were enjoyable.

There turn out to have been a lot of them, written over the years. 31 by 1982, which was when we had The Complete Robot collection. More later.

I don’t wish to repeat the completist effort that was trying to read all Asimov’s Foundation novels, including the later ‘leads in’ and ‘lead outs’. Thus, a ‘best of’ selection is required for the robots.

After some research, I find that the widely-agreed must-read ‘best’ boil down to just nine…

“Runaround” (starter story) (IN: I, ROBOT);
“Little Lost Robot” (IN: I, ROBOT);
“Bicentennial Man” (IN: ROBOT VISIONS);
“Liar!” (IN: I, ROBOT);
“The Tercentenary Incident” (IN: THE COMPLETE ROBOT);
“The Evitable Conflict” (IN: I, ROBOT);
“Evidence” (IN: ROBOT VISIONS);
“Reason” (IN: ROBOT VISIONS);
“Someday” (IN: ROBOT VISIONS).

In audio, that’s just over eight hours.

And if one then wants more, the novels The Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun, Robots of Dawn and Robots and Empire follow these stories, in Asimov-time.

After that, in Asimov-time, you’re into the other two Empire novels, then the Foundation novels.

Lovecraft bot?

Nvidia has released “Chat with RTX” for free. Not a Cloud thing, it seems. You download it as an .EXE and run it on your PC. Though still a bit ‘rough around the edges’, it gives you a local…

AI chatbot you can customize by training it on your private local data. It works offline and is optimized to use Nvidia RTX graphics cards in PCs, for performance boosts in processing chat queries.

Theoretically then, this could make a private ‘Lovecraft bot’, provided there’s no cap on the size of the training data. A ‘HPLovebot’ trained on his writings, publications, essays, and vast numbers of letters (if one took the time to scan and OCR them all). In fact, since Hippocampus has most of that already in digital format, they might make a bundle of money by doing just that and providing it as an online ‘Chat with Lovecraft’ service. Or even for free, with ads for their books alongside. With them and Joshi behind it, it would probably also crowdfund in a few minutes.

Ideally the bot would have the ability to answer in a chronologically-aware way. “Well, in my youth my opinions on what you ask were such-and-such, but as I aged and matured my opinions became more so-and-so.” Something like that.

Regrettably, as well as a modern RTX 30 or 40 series graphics card, “Chat with RTX” also requires Windows 11 to build the bot. At least that’s what the specs say.

Metropolis LORA

Some recent and new style-guidance plugins (‘LORAs’) for Stable Diffusion AI image generator, of possible interest to Tentaclii readers. Both free…

Metropolis Movie Style. Stylish b&w ‘retro-future’.

Something Strange: dark fairy, warm and weird. Could possibly be pushed in the direction of cute weird Lovecraftiana. Has a Japanese file-name that you probably want to rename into English before you install.

Heavy dark LORAs

More new free LORAs of possible interest, for use with your local AI image generation software (ComfyUI, InvokeAI, etc, running Stable Diffusion 1.5).

Death Metal artwork, in an album-cover style though one can remove the lettering (SD 1.5 doesn’t do readable lettering). Seems well-liked by those who’ve tried to work with it.

Possibly also useful for fantasy-horror needs, the new environment LORAs Fantasy Swamps (generic) and Ice Age (old and future Ice Ages, sci-fi ice worlds).

Perhaps interesting to combine in Lovecraft-y ways, the new silhouette-y Shadow Concept and the dusk-with-glows Shadow Concept.

And finally, a new Solomon Kane character LORA, based on stills from the movie.

Medieval cats and braces

23 Tuesday Jan 2024

Posted by asdjfdlkf in AI, Kittee Tuesday, Lovecraft as character, Lovecraftian arts

For ‘Kitty Tuesday’, a new Medieval cats LORA for your PC’s local AI image-generator. Cats as seen on medieval manuscripts. That was when they had rocket-cats. Really…

Also a new Retro Men’s Suspenders Outfit LORA, which could be useful for those making an ‘H.P. Lovecraft as character’ comic or 1920s-50s Call of Cthulhu RPG artwork with AI image generation. In British English, suspenders = braces.

So far as I’m aware, he used a firm belt rather than braces, but the LORA is certainly depicting a key aspect of his era.

HPL and Sonia in the year 3000

I’ve found time to wrangle with the ‘Moebius emulating’ bits of Stable Diffusion 1.5. Getting near a formula takes quite a bit of time, as there are so many factors to balance and there’s no textbook for this stuff. But I think I’m getting there. ‘HPL and Sonia in the year 3000’, as-if by Moebius…

A straight text-prompt + LORA, there’s no Img2Img here from a real Moebius drawing.

LORAs in spaaace…

A few more AI LORAs from over Christmas, free plug-ins suitable for making science-fiction and fantasy images with AI image generators. These are more newly discovered than new.

New, the Terran Trade Authority space art style LORA. TTA was a British book series that republished the best sci-fi paperback cover-art of the 1960s and 70s, weaving around them a coherent future timeline of spacefaring, space-wrecks and explorers.

Might be used with the newly discovered kaodiiLandscapeMix – night – v1.0, a rare full model dedicated to dusk and night paintings. As such, possibly of use for the more subtle types of horror painting, and dimly-illuminated space art planetscapes.

Newly discovered, an Ice Age LORA, for making various types of scene look icy and snowy. Possibly of interest to those devising pictures of ‘Conan in the cold wastes’ or ‘Lovecraftian cities at the pole’, etc, but also ‘ice planets’.

Newly discovered, lurking at HuggingFace. RetroFutur, an Embedding rather than a LORA (they work in a similar way). Note this is for SD 2.1 786 rather than the usual 1.5. Gives sort of a Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow look…

And, since this is Kitty Tuesday, note the same maker has a KittyPic embedding, for photoreal cats in SD 2.1 786. Do not combine with RetroFutur to create visions of the Greater Ulthar Cat Empire of 2499… do not… oh, too late.
