Prometheus II plot

The movie Prometheus II has apparently been given the green-light for script development. That’s the film which pinched a lot of Lovecraft’s At The Mountains of Madness. The rumour is that…

“Sources close to the sequel [said the] studio and Scott [are] taking pitches from basically anyone who can crack the story”

Well, guys here’s my 1,500 word pitch for the sequel’s backstory and full plot (PDF link). It’s a revised and polished version of the plot I posted here back in Sept 2012. It’s yours for $75,000 🙂

Rather expensive, but Book Design Templates has a nice MS Word book template, called Flourish. Might be useful for print-on-demand self-publishers who can’t afford, or who can’t use, Adobe InDesign.

Amazing news that a number of previously uncollected Lord Dunsany stories are turning up. They’d apparently been sitting unregarded in the yellowing pages of various old British newspapers.

Playing Lovecraftian videogames? Check your PC’s graphics-card… something might be leaking through the electro-aether… 🙂

Roll20

Always wanted to try Lovecraft RPG gaming, but put off by the thought of travelling to get to a game with guys who actually take it seriously? Or were you scared by the prospect of having to sit between your mate’s beardy-weirdy cousins? A new service called Roll20 apparently allows you to play these games online via a… “Web-based online virtual tabletop for all roleplaying games”. The UK’s respected PC Gamer magazine gave it a positive five-page article, in the latest issue. It sounds rather interesting, and it seems the only drawback is that you don’t get to munch on free pizza paid for by your host’s mom.

Mazes and Labyrinths

I’ve never seen any evidence that Lovecraft saw or read this work, but the 1922 book Mazes and Labyrinths: A General Account of their History and Developments might have tickled his imagination, if he had picked it up in the Providence library or encountered it later in the libraries of New York. It has two opening chapters on the Egyptian forms, and a closing one on mazes in literature. It’s available to read online…

The Dark Side of the Poles: Dreams and Nightmares in Polar Exploration runs until 3rd November 2012 in the UK, as part of the University of Cambridge Festival of Ideas…

“Throughout the Festival, explore our trail of polar dreams and nightmares. Find untold secrets hidden in drawers and strange objects that have crept into the cases.”

The BBC has a companion essay on the topic, from Fred Lewsey of the University of Cambridge.

The Graham-Wesson collection of amateur journals newly photographed. The Collection is…

“now being indexed for the NAPA, AAPA, and The Fossils”

Including a glimpse of a picture of a young Lovecraft (in his late 20s?) wearing his glasses, a picture which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before…

Selected Letters

H.P. Lovecraft’s Selected Letters I, II, III, IV, V, all first editions, plus an envelope with Lovecraft’s name and return address written on the back. A snip at £1606.35. Even the most judicious shopper would have to pay about £250 for a set of the later editions, these days, so I guess it’s the envelope that’s costing around £1,200.
