Illustrators Quarterly Special #14: The Illustrated History of Warren Comics. 144 pages.
A searcher for “Illustrators Quarterly” special would get results indicating that Amazon UK doesn’t carry the “Special” versions, other than #1. But it is there, awkwardly titled as “The Illustrated History of Warren Magazines: illustrators Special 14″. On Amazon the Specials go under the title of “illustrators Special” for some reason.
What a wonder a Euro companion volume might be: The Illustrated History of the Toutain Magazines, though obviously far more difficult to research.

It’s been done. The first Illustrators Special was devoted to the Spanish artist who worked for Warren and was written by Diego Cordoba who worked at the Toutain Studio and knew many of the artists whose work appeared in Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella et al.

Thanks. I was thinking more of continental Toutain titles like the Spanish-language 1984, Zona 84 (not to be confused with the various licensed editions of the Spanish 1984 which appeared in other languages including English, often very different beasts), Ere Comprimee and probably others, that never reached American shores except as selected translated strips in the Warren titles, mixed with American strips and artists. The same arrangement appears to have happened elsewhere in Europe, with Toutain presumably saying ‘take what you want, translate, fill in the rest with your local comics creatives’. So there is a wide range to untangle there, and it’s not just about the ones who got into the Warren titles in America.
