Martine Chifflot-Comazzi kindly informs that her stage play, Lovecraft, my love — “created for streaming in Clermont-Ferrand (March) and in Paray-le-Monial with the public (September)” — is now available in translation. Sadly I can’t find the link to this new book at either of her Facebook pages, but she writes in a comment at Tentaclii that…

The text has been translated and is available (20 euros)

Previously available in French from Aigle Botte Editions, 2018. Amazon UK has no sign of the new translation yet.

Before I could even post it here, the HPLHS has funded their Kickstarter for the new letters journal, a spin-out from the Voluminous podcasts.

Great Books podcast: “The Call of Cthulhu”

The National Review magazine’s Great Books podcast is this week Episode 199: ‘The Call of Cthulhu’ by H.P. Lovecraft…

John J. Miller is joined by Paul LaFarge of Bennington College to discuss H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu”.

Who is LaFarge? He turns out to be the author of a complex ‘what if?’ Barlow-as-character novel The Night Ocean (2017). Another one I missed in the Tentaclii hiatus, then. The only non-Amazon / non-paywall full review I can immediately find by search is by The Hysterical Hamster. Warning, the review has lots of plot spoilers.

Gary Gianni’s The Call of Cthulhu

Gary Gianni’s illustrated “The Call of Cthulhu” book is shipping. 112 pages with 100+ pencil drawings plus colour inserts. Designed with Marcelo Anciano, it apparently seeks to…

push the boundaries of illustrated books and explore graphic storytelling.

Direct from the publisher Flesk seems the best way to get one before they sell out the print-run.

Miskatonic Missives

Miskatonic Missives, a spin-out paper publication from the Voluminous podcast…

each issue of Miskatonic Missives serves as an ideal companion guide for exploring one of H.P. Lovecraft’s most fascinating letters. Every issue includes a reproduction of the full text of the letter in question, supported by a variety of relevant reference material, including contemporary and modern fiction, academic writing, poetry, and artwork.

Hmmm, “contemporary and modern fiction”? I presume that must be new unpublished work then?

Das Werk II

Leslie Klinger’s annotated Lovecraft with Joshi’s texts, now complete in two volumes in German translation. Das Werk II: Große kommentierte Ausgabe was published in Germany a few days ago.

Actually, thinking back… it was the Joshi texts that were used for the English edition. But I’m guessing that perhaps they swopped that out for a good German translation, already available?

Also, “Hypnos” was missing from the English edition for some reason. Also others. So not quite “Das Werk” complete that the publishers are implying.

New book: The Recognition of H.P. Lovecraft

S.T. Joshi’s blog has updated. The main good news is his new history book which surveys Lovecraft’s 1938-1988 period…

The Recognition of H.P. Lovecraft should appear within a few weeks, enhanced by a fine cover design by Jason Van Hollander.

Google Books suggest the full title is to be The Recognition of H. P. Lovecraft: His Rise from Obscurity to World Renown, but can as yet provide no table-of-contents or cover.

Among other items Joshi notes is the arrival of the new expanded Samuel Loveman collection Out of the Immortal Night (original book was 2004), and the slight delaying of the expected premiere of the new Lovecraft documentary. It has originally been mooted for the Lovecraft Film Festival, but is now to be shown via streaming only and “occurring a week after” the Festival.

Lovecraft Annual 2021

Lovecraft Annual 2021, now listing on Amazon UK and (for an extra £5) on eBay UK. Sadly not fitted with translucent flexi-cover with washes of faint and unplaceable iridescent colours, as I had rather whimsically expected after seeing the blank slot on the initial Hippocampus listing. More of a ‘hot curry’ colour for the cover, this year. Which I like and I guess will sit well alongside the latest book of Letters… containing as it does a curry recipe.
