Possible $150 venue for a NecronomiCon Providence 2015 picnic, if one were willing to gamble on the weather…

June 9th, 2014. The Federal Hill Commerce Association (FHCA), a nonprofit organization representing businesses on Federal Hill, recently announced that it is making St. John’s Park on Atwells Avenue available to businesses and individuals for celebrations, charity events, and outings. Copies of the St. John’s Park rental contract can be downloaded from FCHA’s website. Anyone interested in renting the park can contact Chris Chabot, FHCA’s secretary: Tel: 401-432-7783. E-mail: info@federalhillprov.com

St. John’s on Atwell Avenue was the setting for “The Haunter of the Dark”. The church was closed in 1991 and demolished in the early 1990s, and the site is now St. John’s Park. It has some stone posts and stairs from the old church, and a granite edging. Lovecraft also wrote a poem about a proposal to rename Atwell’s Avenue to “Columbus Avenue”.

The scholarly and academic bit of NecronomiCon 2015 is now calling for papers. The theme is the mythos, its sources and influence…

The Armitage Symposium aims to foster exploration of Lovecraft’s elaborate cosmic mythology, and how this mythology was influenced by, and has come to influence, numerous other authors and artists”

Not Lovecraft, but some readers may be interested to hear of the popular culture Arcade Expo. 750 pinball machines, free to play for 3,000 convention attendees. It’s been and gone for 2015, but looks set to be back next year.

pinball

I wonder if something like a good pay-to-play digital Lovecraft pinball table, or three, might raise some cash for a local cats’ charity at NecronomiCon 2015? Someone would have to design the tables though, by re-skinning old public-domain classics, as I know of no Lovecraft themed tables.

Pulpfest 2015 in Columbus, Ohio from 13th-16th August 2015. Pulpfest 2015 has announced a “H.P. Lovecraft and Weird Tales” theme for 2015. Pulpfest 2015 thus segways rather neatly with NecronomiCon in Providence on 20th-23th August 2015, making for a potential two-week Lovecraft love-in. Three weeks, even, if one were to stay on in Providence to peruse some of the rare treasures of the Lovecraft collection at the John Hay Library and visit some of Lovecraft’s places such as Marblehead.
