Littlefox has followed up her fabulous toon unicorn character with… new baby unicorns!
Shifter, follow-up to Anomaly
Remember Anomaly, the really cool graphic novel made with Poser and DAZ Studio and Poser content?
The follow-up, an interactive Android production called Shifter is now available on Amazon, with a free first chapter. This… “murder-mystery with a decadent sci-fi twist” (and dinosaurs, lots of them) consists of digitally overpainted 3D renders, in the form of…
9 Epic Chapters
200 Fully Painted Pages
65 Interactive Touch Points
875 Panels of Art
2½ Hours of Audio
“Even without the digital features, Shifter is an engaging tale. Kunrong Yap’s illustrations are vivid, and the story, written by Mr. Brittenham, Mr. Haberlin and Brian Holguin, is fast-paced and captivating.” — New York Times review.
Mined out
As Bitcoin miners sell off their nearly-useless graphics-card stuffed mining PCs, where will those machines go? The miners are either going to be left with awesome videogaming rigs (Skyrim at 8000px on a wall-size HD TV, anyone?), or else the Poser/Daz 3D rendering market is about to see a flood of high-end graphics cards on eBay. Those running a GPU renderer, and in the market for a ninja graphics card or two, may want to keep an eye on eBay in the coming months.
Poser Direct’s freebies-with-purchase offer
New freebies for DAZ and Poser
Here are some of the freebies I’ve noted this month for DAZ Studio and Poser users:
Timbers are definitely ‘a shivering with Mortemvetus. A message in a bottle; the wheel of a haunted pirate ship; and a treasure map. (Aug 2017: link fixed)
Pirates vs. Vikings? In 3D-land, anything is possible! Viking Longboats as .obj models with textures. And the Gabare, which is more of a coastal trading vessel, and also done as .obj models with textures. The textures loaded up fine for me.
Xanadu looks rather good, if you need a “1940s USA” look for a scene. I guess you could also turn it 90 degrees, add another copy, and stick it far in the distance behind some haze — to serve as a sci-fi tower?
Gasbit is a Poser-rigged free character. I’m guessing that a bit of extra work, and some Photoshop magic, might also turn him into more of a semi-toon astronaut boy…
“Meet me at the Abandoned Warehouse…”
Yet another great new scene from Stonemason, in his growing abandoned city series. Abandoned Interiors: Warehouse joins the set.
Firefox gets native 3D via bundled Unreal Engine 4
A new Firefox feature is rather cool…
“You’ll soon be able to stream and play highly realistic three-dimensional video games from within the Mozilla Firefox [Web] browser. … Firefox’s gaming capabilities don’t even require a Web browser plugin to function … ability to run the Unreal Engine, even the new Unreal Engine 4”
Firefox joins Google Chrome in this, as Chrome has had the same HTML5 3D gaming ability for a while now.
Given the pace that Firefox is developing it can’t be long until we see it in the latest Firefox downloads. In fact, those with the 64-bit developer Nightly build of Firefox can already play Monster Madness. Or, they can if they play it if can get past the dreadfully unintuitive UI interface which serves to hide the buttons that actually starts the gameplay. I clicked the main play button, but was then presented with nothing that would actually start the game. Though the game’s interface elements loaded fine…
Such teething problems aside, we’ve come a long way from those far-off years when a clunky Java browser applet would load… and load… and then… crash and freeze your entire PC.
Falloff glows in Carrara
10 Reasons You Need a Falloff Shader Plugin for Carrara. Including to do faux glows, which follows from my recent tutorials here on the subject of doing spillover glow in Carrara…
Heavy Metal puts Poser on the cover
This is great to see, and shows the graphics world what DAZ Studio and Poser content can do in the hands of talented artists. The famous comics magazine Heavy Metal has used a Poser render created by Isikol, on the latest issue’s cover no less! #268 is the April 2014 issue.
His foreground character was rendered in Poser. The background is Stonemason’s The Enchanted Forest + Return To The Enchanted Forest + Jungle Ruins, all sent over from Poser to be rendered in Vue. Then the two renders were composited together in Photoshop.
Carrara 8.5 Pro at half-price
DAZ’s Carrara 8.5 Pro is currently nearly half-price on the store…
The Octane renderer for DAZ Carrara is due sometime this Springtime. Back in early February 2014 Octane was announced as “a few weeks” away. Octane is a GPU (graphics card) based renderer, and here’s a Jan 2014 preview. It’s not iClone — in terms of true “what you see is what you get” real-time rendering — but for a viewport updater it’s still pretty impressive, and is apparently even doing automated replacement of the textures with Carrara shaders…
Poser and Daz: new releases round-up
After a break from 3D for a couple of weeks, I’ve been looking through all the new DAZ Studio and Poser content that’s been released recently.
Oskarsson’s Neon character is another movie-quality character, a more organic looking variant of one of his earlier characters…
Stonemason keeps delighting 3D sci-fi artists, and he has a new robot out called Prototype. This character has a nice “Iron Man meets the school science project” feel to it.
The Prototype could look rather good in Dreamlight’s new The Pit sci-fi environment…
This large-scale environment probably works best with Dreamlight’s Light Dome PRO-R lights/render/composite system, so you can get the distance fogging (this requires Photoshop and the ability to use it).
Rather more twee, but also of amazing design quality, is The Unicorn from LittleFox. There are also poses and there’s already a small avalanche of texture addons for this one! Just search RuntimeDNA for “unicorn”.
Also rather unusual is Moscowich’s Shamaness (for Poser) which is a semi-toon standalone character. She might work well with some of Nursoda’s standalone characters.
Let’s not forget steampunk. The Steamway (for Poser) is a nice bit of quality steampunk transportation, with a number of different configurations.
Steam-heads should also take a look at the new Technomancer Mask, for which there’s also a Victoria 4 edition…
On a more mundane level Loft for Lease looks like a very useful multipurpose environment. Suitable for everything from a H.P. Lovecraft “Shadow Over Innsmouth” comic, through to just about any city crime stakeout scene.
Loft for Lease can also be given a makeover to make it into a very nice looking Dance Studio or Gym Hall…
And last, but not least, Millenium Cat aniblocks animations. Go, kittee!
Animations Backgrounds returns
Glad to see that the Animations Backgrounds blog is back in action. Just the backgrounds / backdrops / mattes / backplates, whatever you want to call them. Usually from old animations.
Lots of inspiration here for artfully arranging the backgrounds of your Daz and Poser scenes.
Sixus1’s Void Prime: Dakari
Cool new alien 3d figure for DAZ Studio / Poser, from Sixus1: Void Prime: Dakari.
Octane for DAZ Carrara
DAZ Carrara 8.5 Pro users will shortly get an Octane renderer plugin in “Windows 7 & 8 … 64-bit”. Apparently it’s now only “a few weeks away”.
Scene it all
Renderosity has a big 50% Off architecture and scene sale for Daz and Poser users, 3rd – 9th February 2014.
