A beautiful new Songbird ReMix pack, just released and available now on the DAZ Store: “Cool and Unusual Birds 3” (the SR birds render best in Poser, I find)…

The well-known 3D environment/scene maker Stonemason has started a new series for DAZ Studio or Poser. “Worlds Of Fantasy : Medieval House” is the first, available now on the DAZ Store…

High-quality dinosaur designer Dinonaul has moved into Nursoda terrority, with this new “Where the Wild Things Are” standalone toon monster for Poser, called Echu…

A very cool new standalone character for DAZ Studio and Poser, recently released: Madam Shapoklyak. She’s by the same 3D artist who recently released the semi-toon standalone Sherlock Holmes and Watson figures. She looks like she could also work well with Doctor Pitterbill.

A fine-looking new set of sci-fi cargo containers, just arrived at Renderosity. Some of the best I’ve seen for DAZ Studio or Poser, and very suitable for everything from a superhero team’s “supercar garage” scene, to a thriller-style espionage scene…

Syd Mead is a major science-fiction artist, famous for his vehicle designs and futurological visions from the 1960s and 1970s, and also for his work on numerous famous movies. His alluring visions of a prosperous and immaculately-designed future Earth are still very influential today — as evidenced by the kind of prize money ($35k) put up for the recent Images of future transport: in the style of Syd Mead competition.
You may not have the draftsmanship skills of a Syd Mead, but — with a little help from Photoshop and DAZ — could you nevertheless create a Syd Mead -like CG artwork?
Well, perhaps. Syd doesn’t yet have his own line of branded DAZ Studio or Poser models. But until then, here’s my new survey of DAZ and Poser content, in which I dig out the best of the most Mead-like items…
CS City might provide a suitable background or two for vehicles and heavy-lifters…

Some of the Dystopia City Blocks buildings might also come in handy, and the first two packs of blocks are free.
The amazing Mars Vehicle is perhaps the most Mead like I’ve found…

Dystopian Aircar Aeronica V18…

Some of the Flying Cars set could also serve very well in a Mead-like scene, although sadly they’re for Bryce…

The Pacificator is also a good choice if you like the more Tron like models by Mead…

If you prefer flying motorcycles over cars, the J-Scooter 2 might suit…

Need figures for your artwork? The Bot Armor (id 8101) is for Victoria 4.2 Morphs++, and (apart from the high heels) has a pleasingly Mead-like retro-future look…

The JICC 3000 looks like he might just be a bot that belongs in a Mead painting…

If you have to get a curvaceous girl into your artwork, then 110.1 may be the one to have…

A couple of the heavy-lifter items in the Psi City Sector 2: Jat Cargo Set pack look like they might belong in the background of a Mead painting…

The Cargo 2 also looks like it has potential as a cargo-port craft…

The Gargola 901 could also serve as a heavy sky-tug for a sci-fi cargo yard…

A good heavy vehicle might be the Sci-Fi Truck – Heavy Duty…

… or the Ursus hovertruck…
By combining the wheels from the Storm Buggy with “Dino Truck” and removing the ‘dino inspection platform’, and flipping the whole thing around, you could get a fairly Mead-like heavy vehicle…

The Super Lorry is a 3DS model that looks like something from Mead’s famous U.S. Steel paintings of the 1960s…
For Moon scenes, there’s a cool Moon Rover…
And a free Survey Seeder for Google SketchUp. (Also converted for iClone).
Some of the Retro-Futuristic Furniture set could be retextured for less grime…

Finally, the GIS Orion interior has Mead-like tables and chairs…

You could also look at prop and vehicle models extracted from the Mass Effect videogames series. I’ve only played the first in the series, but I remember that the game takes some of its art design inspiration from Mead.
That’s it. Enjoy!
Content Paradise currently has Poser 8 on offer for $74.99 as a digital download, which might interest those looking for a more affordable upgrade route to Poser Pro 2014. Offer ends 7th July 2012. Keep in mind, however, that Amazon USA currently has Poser 8 DVD versions listed at $50, fulfilled by Amazon.

Poser Mocap has just released this promo video for their forthcoming Posermocap Swordplay Construction Kit Volume 1, featuring synchronised dual swordplay animations…
Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012 are now available in native German-language versions…
“Ab sofort konnt ihr die erfolgreiche Figurengestaltungssoftware Poser 9 und erstmals auch Poser Pro 2012 in deutscher Sprache bestellen.”
Poser Physics 2012, out now…

Lovely new Steampunk Airship, for DAZ Studio or Poser…

I’m pleased to see that the superb steampunk costume Apteromata Flight for Poser has been newly put up for sale at Runtime DNA. There were a few months where it wasn’t for sale anywhere, and it would have been a great pity to have seen it vanish. Runtime DNA also has all the MAT retexturing packs, Atropos, XP, and Finery.
I’ve updated this blog’s page for Poser 9 / 2012 : the missing training DVD. Four new videos have been added. Three new ones are in a new sub-section called “Poser lighting basics”. The other is this more advanced tutorial, on “How to animate two figures, interacting”…
Antonia Polygon-WM is the new free showcase female character for Poser and Poser Pro 2014. Available free at her own site…
“She was designed to showcase Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012’s newest features and technology … developed by a group of talented members of the Poser community in a thirty-month effort, and the figure has all the superior characteristics of Antonia Polygon – Standard.”
She’s a 63Mb download. WM stands for “weight mapped”, which means she’s very flexible and yet her joints don’t go awry.
The new Service Release 2 (SR2) patch for Poser now exports characters and props in a Collada format which…
“enables export of bump and normal maps in Photoshop compatible fashion”
So Photoshop CS6 Extended users can import a posable character that doesn’t need any materials tweaking.
Another very cool new feature will be the forthcoming ability to…
“get animated 3D characters from Poser into WebGL-enabled browsers like Chrome or Firefox.”
These latest browsers can now run full-blown 3D games, and 3D model displays, natively — without needing any clunky Flash or Java plugins.
