Reality 3 has been announced for Poser at SIGGRAPH 2012…
“SIGGRAPH 2012 attendees can get a special sneak-peak of the upcoming Reality 3 for Poser, launching globally in November 2012. Reality 3 for Poser gives Poser users access to the power of LuxRender, providing unbiased, physically accurate, and GPU rendering to help artists produce gorgeous hyper-realistic illustrations and images.”
Price is mooted to be $59.95 at launch.
Talking of ‘physically accurate’, currently on a special sale at DAZ is the photoreal V4 Elite Texture: Amy for just $8.99. Her textures come with installers for DAZ Studio, Poser, and DAZ Carrara. If you already have the V4 Elite bundle, you already have the Amy textures packs.

A new 3D Universe toon character for DAZ Studio or Poser is always a treat, and the new Toon Crab is no exception. Available now, on the DAZ Store…

Can you inject dynamism and “life” into a DAZ Studio or Poser character pose, as easily as you can inject a morph? Only if you know the secrets of the pros. Commercial comics artists know more than most about this topic, and American comic-book artist Brian Haberlin (Spawn) has a handy and quality new article on the top 10 ways to bring your 3D character art to life.

Brian also has a cool long article on overpainting 3D renders for comics, using Painter… which comes from the book Secrets of Corel Painter Experts: Tips, Techniques, and Insights for Users of All Abilities…

OBJ Import Plus for Poser. A new free plugin for Poser users, which extends your options for importing and handling 3d models in OBJ format.

Survey of 3D dogs for DAZ Studio or Poser, realistic and toon:
The “DAZ Millennium Dog” is free on the DAZ Store, in the form of a MillDog LE (light) version that has 43 basic morphs. This DAZ MilDog sent the old Poser 4 dog to the retirement kennels. Renderosity has a pack of 25 poses that specifically work with the LE version of the Millennium Dog.

The “Millennium Dog Starter Pack”, also on the DAZ Store, injects 120 morphs into the MilDog LE, thus allowing a variety of popular large breeds to be created…

Also on the DAZ Store there is a “Real Fur for the Millennium Dog” pack (likely to send render times through the roof, if my experience of cat fur is anything to go by); the “Classic Canines Combo” provides a major textures pack; and the “Canine Journey Poses” pack….

Puppies and pup lovers are ably catered for by the DAZ Store’s “Millennium Puppy”.

If you want all the DAZ Store’s main dog and puppy packs, save by getting them in the combined “Ultimate Canine Bundle”.
A free MilDog accessory is a small dog crate.
There doesn’t appear to be a dog accessories pack, curiously. I’d have expected someone to make a dog toys / basket / brush / lead set by now. Nor do there appear to be any police & rescue services dog liveries.
The poor old Poser 8 “dog with no name” (a quality dog that shipped with Poser 8, designed by the famous Stonemason) doesn’t seem to have ever had much love. Content Paradise has a single lone pose set for him…

Lovers of small and toy dog breeds are not well catered for in the DAZ / Poser world. Some free morph sets were produced for the old Poser 4 dog — such as CloudCastle’s Dachshund; and Lyne’s Basset Hound which has also been extended with 3D Menagerie’s comprehensive set of Basset morps.
Meshbox has Mister Puggles which is a realistic pug dog for Poser 6…

Toon dogs (that are not too bizarre-looking) include 3D Universe’s Bacon…

Bacon has a Dog’s Life pose pack and Hound Dog textures packs on the DAZ Store.
Digital Creation’s Dawg is not too bad, but you may want to tone down the horrible specularity/bump-map combo that is supposed to be his hair texture…

Into science-fiction? Robot dogs include Renderosity’s Hell Hound Cyber-Dog which has very nice “worn” textures…

Need something sleeker? The OnTarget3D store has a free Mech Robot Dog Dinosaur…

Quality ‘demon dogs‘ include the DAZ Store’s “Gargoyle Hound” and its Demon Dogs Add-on Pack.
Renderosity also has this which might look good in darker lighting than it’s shown in here…

About ten years ago there was a very good stylised “Demon Dog” morph and texture pack for the old Poser 4 dog, but it appears to have vanished into the mists of history…

Similarly, there was also once an “Alien Dogs” pack of morphs and textures, along with a similar “Alien Cats” pack, but neither of these packs seem to be available anywhere now…

That’s it. Bow wow for now…
3D Art Direct magazine has a cool podcast with a Poser Pro 2014 artist who actually quit her job to make 3D artwork full-time!
mp3 of the interview with Suzi Amberson.

Renderosity has a free Smart Cane prop for my favorite DAZ 3D character, Nursoda’s Doctor Pitterbill.

Did you know that Poser Pro 2014 can directly import Lightwave models? Normally the hardcore modelers who use Lightwave will export a 3d model from Lightwave to the universal OBJ format. But sometimes you’ll find a free or older model that’s only in .lwo format… Poser can handle these…

A beautiful new Songbird ReMix pack, just released and available now on the DAZ Store: “Cool and Unusual Birds 3” (the SR birds render best in Poser, I find)…

The well-known 3D environment/scene maker Stonemason has started a new series for DAZ Studio or Poser. “Worlds Of Fantasy : Medieval House” is the first, available now on the DAZ Store…

High-quality dinosaur designer Dinonaul has moved into Nursoda terrority, with this new “Where the Wild Things Are” standalone toon monster for Poser, called Echu…

A very cool new standalone character for DAZ Studio and Poser, recently released: Madam Shapoklyak. She’s by the same 3D artist who recently released the semi-toon standalone Sherlock Holmes and Watson figures. She looks like she could also work well with Doctor Pitterbill.

A fine-looking new set of sci-fi cargo containers, just arrived at Renderosity. Some of the best I’ve seen for DAZ Studio or Poser, and very suitable for everything from a superhero team’s “supercar garage” scene, to a thriller-style espionage scene…

Syd Mead is a major science-fiction artist, famous for his vehicle designs and futurological visions from the 1960s and 1970s, and also for his work on numerous famous movies. His alluring visions of a prosperous and immaculately-designed future Earth are still very influential today — as evidenced by the kind of prize money ($35k) put up for the recent Images of future transport: in the style of Syd Mead competition.
You may not have the draftsmanship skills of a Syd Mead, but — with a little help from Photoshop and DAZ — could you nevertheless create a Syd Mead -like CG artwork?
Well, perhaps. Syd doesn’t yet have his own line of branded DAZ Studio or Poser models. But until then, here’s my new survey of DAZ and Poser content, in which I dig out the best of the most Mead-like items…
CS City might provide a suitable background or two for vehicles and heavy-lifters…

Some of the Dystopia City Blocks buildings might also come in handy, and the first two packs of blocks are free.
The amazing Mars Vehicle is perhaps the most Mead like I’ve found…

Dystopian Aircar Aeronica V18…

Some of the Flying Cars set could also serve very well in a Mead-like scene, although sadly they’re for Bryce…

The Pacificator is also a good choice if you like the more Tron like models by Mead…

If you prefer flying motorcycles over cars, the J-Scooter 2 might suit…

Need figures for your artwork? The Bot Armor (id 8101) is for Victoria 4.2 Morphs++, and (apart from the high heels) has a pleasingly Mead-like retro-future look…

The JICC 3000 looks like he might just be a bot that belongs in a Mead painting…

If you have to get a curvaceous girl into your artwork, then 110.1 may be the one to have…

A couple of the heavy-lifter items in the Psi City Sector 2: Jat Cargo Set pack look like they might belong in the background of a Mead painting…

The Cargo 2 also looks like it has potential as a cargo-port craft…

The Gargola 901 could also serve as a heavy sky-tug for a sci-fi cargo yard…

A good heavy vehicle might be the Sci-Fi Truck – Heavy Duty…

… or the Ursus hovertruck…
By combining the wheels from the Storm Buggy with “Dino Truck” and removing the ‘dino inspection platform’, and flipping the whole thing around, you could get a fairly Mead-like heavy vehicle…

The Super Lorry is a 3DS model that looks like something from Mead’s famous U.S. Steel paintings of the 1960s…
For Moon scenes, there’s a cool Moon Rover…
And a free Survey Seeder for Google SketchUp. (Also converted for iClone).
Some of the Retro-Futuristic Furniture set could be retextured for less grime…

Finally, the GIS Orion interior has Mead-like tables and chairs…

You could also look at prop and vehicle models extracted from the Mass Effect videogames series. I’ve only played the first in the series, but I remember that the game takes some of its art design inspiration from Mead.
That’s it. Enjoy!
