A useful old book, free online, Old Sword-Play. Lots of big pictures from primary sources, for those who want to recreate historical-authentic sword-fighting poses for Poser and DAZ Studio.

DAZ/Poser Content Survey for Jan 2016
Next weekend I may not have the time to do my usual survey of the month’s new content for DAZ Studio and Poser. So, here’s the latest roundup of the quality and unusual items that have caught my eye since December 31st.
Wear Them All – Autofitting Clones and Clothing Smoothers for Genesis 3 Female and for Genesis 3 Male. Looks incredibly useful for DAZ Studio and G3 users….
“Wear Them All autofitting clones are created to smoothly fit any Genesis 2 Male, Genesis, Victoria 4 and Michael 4 conforming clothes to Genesis 3 Female(s) using the Autofit feature in DAZ Studio.”

There’s also a big Male + Female ‘Growing Up’ bundle to easily get different age-shapes onto Genesis 3.
There are of course plenty of generic/chain-store G3 outfits this month, plus a useful base set of Office Wear for Genesis 3 Female. But a few more unusual items stand out for me. The AntFarm has an impressive Flight Gear head-piece for G3 and G2, which someone will no doubt produce a steampunk materials makeover for soon.

Demian’s Misterio Outfit for Genesis 3 Female is an interesting blend of ancient Greek, steampunk and sci-fi, with a smidgen of pirate. Those with large runtimes could probably mix-and-match items from different outfits to get something similar, but this is nicely done…

Oskarsson has a classic Alice in Wonderland outfit for Genesis 3 Female, which is sure to be popular and to attract a large number of texture makeovers…

Grand Siecle Hair for G3 female, big French-style hair from the 18th century…

For Genesis 2 there’s High Top Canvas Sneakers, which look usefully generic and which come with a wide range of textures and scuffs/stains…

Also for G2 is a freebie Chef outfit, worth having simply for the unusual hat — even if you don’t need a chef…

Poser 11’s new Pauline flagship figure has a goth makeover Jana for Pauline (Poser 11) and an Asian makeover Asami for Pauline (Poser 11)…

In science fiction Predatron’s Star Wars-inspired 14MU Space Dock might be hard to get good camera views inside of, but it certainly looks superb from above. It could equally well be a futuristic gladiatorial arena for battle-bots?

Atlantida Weapons are attractive Fifth Element-style hybrids between sci-fi and Ancient Atlantis, including a very desirable helmet…

Also in sci-fi head-wear, Poisen has a fabulous set of Helmet-Z2 helmets this month…

Is your default grey-blue Poser startup figure, Andy, looking a little humdrum? The freebie Andy2.0 Ancients gives him a colourful sci-fi makeover…

Pin-Up Gynoid Phase3 for G3F Base is unusual…

There’s an even more unusual storage chamber for the Gynoids, Valentine’s Hive…

There are a couple of classic history scenes this month, including i13’s new Greek Arena and Greek Chariot…

Borgia’s Opulent Hall looks like an excellent place for a renaissance swordfight, a Venetian ball scene, or perhaps even a steampunk battle-planning conclave…

Pre-Raphealite paintings in DAZ Studio or Poser? No problem. Mada Hair Genesis 3 Female, G2 and V4, complete with the daisy hair wreath — and (over at Renderosity) NaturalHC colors for hair and wreath…

I covered the recent wave of Ancient Egyptian content in my survey of such, a few days ago…

There’s a crop of urban gangster/police scenes this month. The AntFarm has The Back Room…

And Coflek-Gnorg has an I Spy stakeout scene…

Coflek-gnorg also has MO Ghetto Props 3D Models, which could also be part of the stakeout…

The guy who lives in the box probably sports the epic new fuzzy-face beard from Mortem Vetus, Facial A-Hairness…

Fitting into this crime genre, perhaps a little more than into sci-fi, is Cybertenko’s Military Exoskeleton. It might be a possibility for outfitting and super-charging your gangster-busting hero…

Not much in semi-toon this month, but what there is is quality. The humanimal Reindeer Dusk & Dawn looks great fun…

Also surfing the humanimal trend is Baby Rhino for Baby Luna. Though sadly Baby Rhino appears to have been pulled from the store. Hopefully that’s not due to complaints…

A Witch’s Gingerbread House has a nice baked glaze on the gingerbread…

At Runtime DNA there’s new winter clothing for the popular Star! figure, Vintage Looks for Star…

Skinny in a very different way from Star! is the modern-folklore character Skinnyman. He’s a new standalone character for Poser 6 or later, with a suit that has an excellent silhouette on the shoulders…

Animals continue to attract top Poser/DAZ designers. AM has his Wolf 2.0 for Poser out now, complete with fur.

AM also has a new Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger), a sort of curious marsupial blend between a dog and fox, with zebra stripes…

Too late for Christmas, but you can now turn your Hivewire Horses into Rocking Horses…

The maker of the top-quality Songbird Remix series continues his new Moths series with Moths of the World Vol. 1 and Vol. 2…

Mortem Vetus’s Facial A-Hairness for Micheal 4 can also give a man-beast an epic amount of animal hairyness…

All that in just 24 days since Xmas. Thanks to the designers who make all this cool content happen!
That’s it for now, more next month.
Content Survey: Ancient Egyptian content for DAZ and Poser
Ancient Egypt seems to be hot in 3D these days, so I thought a survey of the best-looking items might be in order. It can work for everything from heroic fantasy adventure through to Bible stories, from Age of Empires cityscapes to Fifth Element -style ‘ancient astronauts’ sci-fi.
Characters, hair, costumes:
Egyptian Outfit and bundle for Genesis 3…

Bast: Goddess of Cats for V4, including clothing and the Bast Hair for which there are Colours for Bast Hair and Queen Nile Bast materials. Bast also has Egypt poses for V4. Bast is also available as a bundle for Genesis 3 Female…

MDD Sakkara for V4.2 from quality character designer MDD…

If you need lower-resolution extras, perhaps to to play a small part in a vast resource-intensive scene, they might be provided by Rulers of Egypt for the now-ancient V2/M2, and note that they also have a Egyptian Couture-Lapis textures makeover…

Military:
There are a variety of authentic military figures and chariots for M4, and Egyptian Chariot. There are also a variety of foot soldier uniforms floating around the stores.

Armour expert Xurge also has a fantasy-ish Pharaoh Outfit for M3…

Props:
RDNA Egyptine Peacock Feather Fans…

Temples and Statues:
Ruins Of Egypt by Stonemason…

Hypostyle Hall imagines how an Egyptian hall might have looked in its freshly-painted heyday…

Ra’s Palace for DAZ Studio by Dreamlight, plus a Dreamlight light set…

Egyptian Pyramid with entrance, and there’s also a free Sphinx in OBJ…

Also have a look at Temple of the Nile and Egyptian Fantasy.

Egyptian Statues for Poser…

Treasures of Egypt pack and Treasures of Egypt 2 and Ancient Egyptian musical instruments, all perfect for filling the Ancient Tomb and its lower Forgotten Tombs.

Joe Kurz has a a variety of free Poser temples and columns in the Ancient Egyptian style.
River transportation:

Papyrus Boats for the Nile.

There’s also the Ancient Egyptian Canal Boat.
Meshbox have a Ancient Egyptian River Dock and Boatmaker which might provide a mooring place for boats, around which one might plant Predatron’s Reeds and Rushes…

Predatron also has Palm Trees.
Semi-toon:
I wasn’t going to venture into the semi-toon area on this theme, but Furries’ Furs – Bast and Anubis are too nice to ignore. They have a ridiculous amount of dependencies, though. They seem to require that you have Furries for Melody / Furries for Micah, which in turn require Melody for A3 which requires Aiko 3, and Micah for Hiro 3 which requires Hiro 3. Phew! Thankfully, apart from the base characters, they’re all low-cost.

There’s also a Toon Egypt semi-toon 3D scene to pose them in.
Fantasy:
If you were to go a bit Conan / The Mummy Returns / Fifth Element with the Egyptian theme, then Queen Cobra HD and Nefertina HD might be useful…

For fantasy males, perhaps Shades of Atlantis: Anunnaki for M4 and Genesis 2 Male Anubis Armor for Anubis…

We seem to be currently missing a Ra-Horus figure — the sun-god, head of a bird — from the Poser/DAZ line-up…

Animals:
You may be needing high quality Scorpions and Large Snakes.
And a Nile Crocodile or three, of course. There’s a freebie Crocodile Pit Extension for The King’s Pass building…

A Scarab Beetle comes free with Poser, so many people will have one in their runtimes.
And finally, no Egyptian scene is complete without some suitable kitties for your characters to worship. Bast Cat for the Millennium Cat seems the most elegant kitty to fit the role…

That’s it!
Wear Them All for Genesis 3
Interesting… I’ve just noticed a utility that claims to auto-fit any legacy V4/M4 clothing onto DAZ’s new Genesis 3 series of figures. It’s Wear Them All – for Genesis 3 Male and Wear Them All – for Genesis 3 Females…
“Wear Them All autofitting clones are created to smoothly fit any Genesis 2 Male, Genesis, Victoria 4 and Michael 4 conforming clothes to Genesis 3 Female(s) using the Autofit feature in DAZ Studio. All clones were made to be the exact projections of legacy figure shapes and can be used with all existing projection templates for Genesis 3 Female to fit every piece of conforming clothing from pants and shirts to footwear and headwear and even hair, as well as any full body clothing in DAZ Studio. Package also includes six clothing smoothers integrated in projection morphs to help smooth up sensitive areas on clothes, oriented especially on the chest area.”
New Poser and DAZ content, December 2015
So content was newly released and caught my eye in Poser and DAZ-land, in December 2015?
Those with a copy of the new Poser 11, and feeling in need of a SuperFly-based Victoria 4 character, may want to look at the new SV7 Neva for Victoria 4…

(Poser 11 users may also want the free SuperFly materials collections Speciality Materials for Poser 11+ and Basic Metal Materials for Poser 11+).
Also for V4 and Poser is Maddelirium’s latest photo-real character MDD Alexis. Looking at this render and at the Maddelirium back-catalog I’d say that many would also pay simply for the fully set-up Poser scene file used for the promo. With the exact same studio ready-lit and with custom render settings etc, to be able to quickly output portrait pictures as good as this…

Talking of quality lights, note that the artist Elianeck (well known for her risqué robot pictures) has her first Elianeck Lights Package for iRay available now…

V4 also has some fab new sci-fi wear, Enigma Redux V4 (there’s also a G2F/G3F version) which could be used along with Prae’s new Eyepatches set and the new Buzzed Hair for all Genesis versions…

Assassin for ShadowBot makes the earlier ShadowBot character (and her Bare Feet freebie add-on) much more usable for serious sci-fi scenes…

If you’re a 3D sci-fi fan who doesn’t yet have quite enough sci-fi med-beds, cryo-chambers and sleep pods, then The AntFarm has another one — the Sci-Fi Med Bed…

Steampunk is very nicely and creatively served this month. There’s Katz Hatz, a small but very stylish set of fantasy and steampunk hats complete with G2 and G3 fits and iRay textures…

Watch My Charm for Genesis 3 Female (DAZ 4.8x only) is also rather hat-tastic and steampunky…

MS15 Victorian Steampunk Transport Terminal is currently only for lucky lucky Vue users. With 185 pre-placed lights and 3.5m polys I suspect that you may need a big rig to render this one with any speed. Still, at only $23 and 96Mb it might be worth trying…

I suspect the caretaker of the ol’ Steampunk Transport Terminal might look like this. He’s for Genesis 3 Male + Daz Studio 4.8x only…

And the Steampunk Transport Terminal’s atrium could even be filled with Giant Moths, new from the bird experts at SongBird Remix.
In mainstream movie sets, Modular Theatre Lobby/Facade looks like a usefully generic scene, and it also has a separate but matching auditorium and stage/backstage…

Coflek-gnorg’s Ghetto Props is unusual enough to warrant a mention. It could even be part of the above theater movie set, perhaps located in an alley around the side of the theater…

Outside Lunch Spot could also be used with the Ghetto Props, perhaps for a comic-book story contrasting night/day scenes at the same spot in the city.
The Projectionist Set could turn the theater into a cinema…

Dreamland also has a generic movie set this month, Movie Props: Warehouse and exterior…

Cover all your movie sets with snow with the Let it Snow system for DAZ Studio, a combination of a conforming top mesh and shaders. (Poser users should note that you can do something very similar and very easily, with the Snow Machine 2 script for Poser)…

In toons this month Sparkyworld has a cute little freebie, Seasonal Pod…

Also a freebie is Christmas Reindeer. I’m not sure if this is original or a movie character? If it’s Disney then watch out, re: copyright…

Dinoraul has a new semi-toon fantasy monster, the Grabber DR…

A major release for fans of Japanese manga and anime is Anime Doll for Genesis 2 Female, which will have native access to all of the Genesis 2 wardrobe…

There is also a free Male Morphs set for Anime Doll for G2F…

Lastly, fans of quality toon characters should note that RuntimeDNA’s big holiday sale is currently still on. Some of the best toon characters, including Star!, are to be found at RuntimeDNA.
That’s it, more next month!
New content for Poser and DAZ users, November/December 2015
So, what’s landed in the Poser and DAZ Studio stores, since my last survey? I’ve spotted the following quality and/or unusual new content, in November and early December:—
Semi-toon experts 3D Universe have a big new Little Ones series for Genesis 3 male/female, which are a range of semi-toon kids suitable for storybook illustration work and more. Complete with a variety of play spaces and equipment. Doubtless they’ll soon have a wide range of similar semi-toon add-ons…

Over on Renderosity there are Canvas Shoes for G3 females, which would suit the new Little Ones characters, though their textures are too clean and the rubber/laces will probably need some “slightly scuffed and worn” modifications…

There are a few nice retro items this month. The Old Barn, for instance, which also comes with a New Barn preset…

And there’s a Between Sunflowers scene, which might become a foreground for the Barn…

The barn could perhaps be the location of some redneck fisticuffs that provoke a boxing match? In which case you’d want the new Vintage Boxing Bundle, including props, characters and equipment…

There’s also a classic English horse rider outfit Equestrian Uniform for Genesis 3 Female, which could be useful for those who have the many excellent horses that have recently appeared for DAZ/Poser users…

What’s new in science fiction this month? EXO Suit for Genesis 3 Females and its EXO Suit Textures pack…

The new Planet Explorer for Genesis 2 Male…

The popular sci-fi HFS Wraith Suit is now available for Genesis 2 and 3 characters…

And the AntFarm’s Heavy Mech is about as characterful as a faceless heavy-bot can get, short of being run through the Pixar character-design labs…

Not much for superhero fans this month, other than a few more pose sets and some so-so costumes. Though The AntFarm has a usefully-generic large background scene for spies and superheros, Hydro Locks…

Surprisingly not from The AntFarm is 4NT-MkIII, a new robot ant which would be suitable for an Ant-Man a-like superhero to ride…

Also in the superhero mode, though toony, is Stryke Angel for the popular Star! toon character…

Meant to be Fallout post-apocalyptic, but Coflek-gnorg’s Falloutic Christmas Trees 3D Models could pass for steampunk with a few tweaks and extra steampunked baubles…

With the big new Doctor Strange movie coming in 2016, in the coming months there’s probably going to be many more like Poisen’s JavaNomicon coffee pots and cups. With a quality shiny-metal finish these might become amusingly steampunkish when paired with an Edwardian tearoom scene…

Vue users have a very detailed mangrove tree set, done in the Star Wars Degobah style (warning, description contains a big plot spoiler, if you somehow haven’t yet seen the original Star Wars trilogy)…

Oddly, the only two new Poser/DAZ animals this month might be found lurking in the above mangrove swamp. The Songbird ReMix has a new range of odd looking Frogmouths, Nightjars & Goatsuckers…

And there’s the Wolf 2.0 by AM for DAZ Studio. Surprisingly its fur doesn’t appear to need a plugin, as it comes “complete with fur”.

That’s all, more in the New Year!
Digital Art LIVE #3
Ahead of the release of the big sci-fi movie, the special “Galaxy far away…” themed issue of the free Digital Art LIVE is now available. This IS the magazine you’re looking for!

Also, there’s the Digital Art LIVE Xmas Party (online), book now!

The Black Friday sales
Ok, so it’s 3.30pm on ‘Black Friday’ here in the UK. Which means its about 9am in the morning in the USA. So, what has Black Friday got to offer the 3D artist?
DAZ has 55% off nearly all Stonemason content, though not his most recent packs.
Also discounted by 55% are a wide variety of core sets of age morphs for DAZ Studio’s various Genesis base characters.
And most of Dreamlight’s catalogue is at 55% off, including the useful Light Dome Pro for $15.73.
Runtime DNA has a Black Friday Real Deals page. Lots of discounts, plus a 10% discount code.
1,700 Cornucopia 3D Vue models are 50% off. The Vue software itself is 50% off.
Renderosity just has a one-day one-use 35% coupon code offer, at their Black Friday Savings page.
Poser 11 Pro is of course 30% discounted, through 30th November. Only three days left to grab it! While you’re there, note that Manga Studio 5 (comics production software, with some of the best inking brushes in the business) is also a whopping 65% off.
HiveWire 3d has a “Save up to 70% with Black Friday / Cyber Monday” Sale. Not a big selection on offer, but I did notice Fluffy Cat (Poser only) for the Millennium Cat, for just $5.23. (Note that for some reason it requires the Java runtime to be installed on your PC ‐ for security I strongly advise un-installing Java afterwards, if it’s only needed for the installer).
HiveWire also have a horse-crazy CWRW Cloud Foundation Sale, which is a big sale of its superb 3D horses and stable-wear clothing.
DAZ releases Michael 7 today
DAZ’s flagship male character Michael 7 has been launched today, for Daz Studio 4.8 users only. He’s a Genesis 3 character, and currently has heavy discounts.
There’s also a Michael 7 Starter Bundle and a Michael 7 Pro Bundle.
And the hair is Frazer hair…
Also available today are Genesis 3 Male Body Morphs, Head Morphs, and Male Expressions.
I must say that DAZ seem to have done rather a good job of giving him character and uniqueness. 60-point of facial articulation, too, and apparently not too heavy on the poly-count either.
For those wondering about where to get the Genesis 3 male base, if it’s anything like Genesis 3 female then it’s accessed via a download triggered inside the software…
“You can select it [the new G3 character icon] in your Library [inside of DAZ Studio 4.8 beta only] then click the Download & Install button”
Aeon Soul opens DAZ store
Top Poser content-creators Aeon Soul (formerly Aery Soul) appear to be leaving the Runtime DNA store. Or, at least, they’re closing out their products there and are saying that “many items will never be on sale again”…
And there’s now a new emerging Aeon Soul store at the DAZ Store, with brand new products for DAZ Studio and heavy introductory discounts…
What’s new in DAZ & Poser content in October 2015?
Here’s my personal monthly pick of October’s releases for Daz Studio and Poser (and a couple for Vue).
The famous Stonemason has more sci-fi with Section 04 out this month. You might think: “Oh no, not more generic SF corridors!”. Until you see the quality of the texturing, the wear and the detailing that Stonemason always gives to his scenes. Section 04 also comes with an optional Sections 05 and 06 Textures pack.
Need corridor guards? The new Quadra (Poser 9+ only, it seems) could look rather good, though it might need to have some wear applied over the textures, in order to match Stonemason’s look…
Need somewhere for your corridors to go to? Petipet’s Sci-fi Lab…
(Note that 1971s has a nice steampunk take on the same lab idea, this month: Steampunk area B).
Also in sci-fi, the Titan Suit Texture Expansion Set gives a new look to the various versions of the popular Titan Suit.
Alessandro’s new Koala Bear shows how far we’ve come in just the last five years in getting quality animals into the DAZ/Poser ecosystem. Requires Look At My Hair, for which the koala comes with fur presets. A Koala environment is also available this month, too, with Alessandro releasing an Australian Outback environment (note this is also in .obj, Vue users) and a pack of extra Australian outback plants.
Vue sci-fi artists have a couple of new items of alien fauna this month, with the Velveteen Bag Worm and the Ray Snake…
Vue users also have a new fine woodland stream setting from Luigi Marini…
I didn’t spot much that’s unusual or unique for fantasy lovers this month, but the Halfway Up the Mountain scene is perhaps one of the best takes on the idea that I’ve seen. If you need a vast panorama with a cast of thousands assaulting a mountain stronghold, then this might be the one. Just add a cult of crazed monks casting defensive spells, squadrons of attack-serpents, and a small army of armoured mountain trolls.
A standout standalone semi-toon character this month is She Gini, a sort of robot version of the famous original Ball-joint Doll.
Anemone for Genesis 2 Female. Nicely designed, and subtly semi-toon, she’s more detailed than she seems at first glance. Anemone would probably work rather well in a comic-strip or point-‘n-click game set under the sea.
Twiggy is a quality standalone toon character, with an outfit already…
Vintage era items this month include Vintage Television Sets.
Also a nicely detailed Vintage Piano Room. Plenty of possibilities here for Christmas scenes, or even for a story-book tale such as a “mouse adventure” set around and inside the piano.
Musica Fantasia is a new classic violin, which might accompany the piano. And fantasy / faery / Ancient Greece / mythological artists might note that it also has a detailed set of pan-pipes.
And to play the piano/violin? Nalfaar iRay is a new DAZ Studio 4.8 standalone update of a classic older male character…
Lastly, some poses. It’s not every day we get five “riding a bicycle poses”, which are in the new 50 Essential Sports Poses pack. Note it seems that these are only compatible with the new Genesis 3 Female.
I also see that MightyMite has started a whole series of classic superhero comic-book poses, which may be a useful time-saver for some.
That’s it, more next month!
New DAZ & Poser 3d content: September 2015 survey
Here’s the monthly pick of what caught my eye in DAZ and Poser content, during September:
Making concept art showing Mars colonisation? This month brings a few extra items to your runtime, that Elon Musk probably doesn’t have yet. Such as the Remus 02 from DzFire, very similar to the vehicle in the movie The Martian…
Need heavy-lifting done? Take along a platoon of Mars worker-bots…
Long-distance exploration of Mars? Just roll out the new Robot Mars all-purpose exploration robo-vehicle…
… and then have your characters follow along after it on a rather more sleek Dual Mode Dragonfly, which on Mars might be used in conjunction with the new Dust and Trail Tool…
Planning to send your DAZ/Poser characters into the caves of Mars, in search of alien life and xenobiology? They might encounter some of the new Alien Botanicals 2 set…
Hopefully there won’t be any Alien Collector Flesh Mech II‘s or Alien Collector Flesh Mech I‘s lurking down in those Martian caves..
Space Debris Set looks useful for sci-fi space scene artists, as does the new Sci Fi Hand Gadgets 1 set…
Still fondly remembering your summer holiday? The new Summer Island and On the Beach may appeal…
Among 3D props for historical recreation, Pioneer Kitchen is a vignette model that looks like it’s had a lot of care put into it…
Shenandoah: Greatcoat for Genesis 2 Male looks like it could be re-purposed for the streets of Victorian London, for the Doctor Watson character in a Sherlock Holmes style scene. Comes with presets for both clean and raggedy versions.
Vue users have a new Ouija Board, again useful for a Victorian / steampunk setting.
DryJack has a classic British Level Crossing to go alongside all his other quality British model-railway 3D models.
In the field of generic interiors, Ironman13’s new i13 Modern Office stands out and looks very flexible. Might be used in conjunction with the new The Lobby…
Also nicely generic is Predatron’s new Wasteground Vignette, likely to be useful for pictures in the style of the Norman Rockwell’s paintings of American childhood, through to cat / dog / bird / insect / fairy pictures.
A few of ShaaraMuse3D’s new Lupinus Flowers might enhance the wasteground corner…
Not much new in semi-toon this month, though the Star! character does have a good-looking Adventurer Set, which might work with a toon re-rexturing of Cybertenko’s new Jungle Transport set…
And finally, Reality 4.1 is out, and with talk of a large speed boost (provided that you also upgrade graphics card drivers).
That’s it! More picks next month.
Reality 4.1 for DAZ Studio – released
Those without the Nvidia graphics cards needed to run DAZ Studio’s iRay renderer might like to look at the new Reality 4.1 – DAZ Studio Edition. It’s available now and is currently at a 30% discount, along with the 4.1 Poser Edition.
Senior members of various forums are testing 4.1 with DAZ and seem generally impressed with the speed, saying things like…
“… reaches 714 samples at 10 min!! (that’s 23 times faster than Reality 4)!!”
Note that AMD users — whom I presume many DAZ + Reality 4.1 users will be — need to update to OpenCL 2.0 to get these big increases in speed. This seems to be done simply by getting the latest AMD Catalyst graphics drivers installed for your graphics processor (GPU).
Note that graphics GPU drivers offered via Windows Update often lag far behind what’s available on the manufacturer website, to keep things super-safe. So if a Windows Update of drivers doesn’t do it for you, you might see if there’s a newer set available direct from AMD.
Batch render for DAZ Studio 4.5 and higher
Going away for the weekend, but leaving your PC running? Then the new Batch Renderer for DAZ Studio may interest you. It will churn out a series of renders, while you have fun. Works with Daz Studio 4.5 and higher, and is compatible with iRay renders.
DAZ and Poser: summer content survey
Gosh, is it September already? Time for another monthly survey of the most interesting scenes and props for Poser and DAZ Studio.
Are you back from your summer holidays? Then slip on the ol’ fuzzy slippers and relax with the Cosy Kitsch Living Room Props for the new A Cozy Kitsch Living Room…
Want to quickly fake some summer holiday photos, showing yourself in amazing locations? You might need some new exotic Poser/DAZ settings, then. Aurelio’s new Venice for instance, puts you in a gondola on the lagoon at Venice…
His Venice might be used with a hazy background made with 1971s’s new Coastal Pier set.
Or how about a trip to Chinatown? Only this is Stonemason’s fantastic new Chinatown, done in the same high-rise style as his classic early sci-fi cityscapes.
A depth-fogging tool is going to be a ‘must’ for this sort of big scene. A new one for Daz Studio 4 + iRay + a powerful PC is AtmoCam for Iray. Likely to be a whole lot quicker, provided you have and know Adobe Photoshop, is making multiple pass renders with Light Dome PRO (Dreamlight’s successor to the very useful old Mood Master II) and then compositing them together using the Screen blend mode in Photoshop.
Need to give Chinatown some aerial anti-gravity powered traffic, like in Blade Runner? The AntFarm has a fine new Floating Junk…
If you have a graphics card that lets you use DAZ Studio’s iRay rendering with any kind of speed, and you want to get a Blade Runner style ‘rain look’ on your Chinatown scene, then Dreamlight has some new DAZ Studio iRay Rain Look Tutorials…
Ground level in Chinatown? 1971s’s new Old town houses kit might serve for that…
Or what about Coflek-Gnorg’s new Cyberpunk Corner for a Chinatown ground level scene? Coflek-Gnorg also has Street Shops…
What about taking your characters underneath the new Chinatown? The new Subway Train is a subway train/carriage that looks like a useful stock prop for your runtime, highly detailed on the exterior and interior. See also the new Ruined Subway Tunnel scene.
Need a new character to roam Chinatown? I love JerryJang’s new CosHero for M4 suit, it looks like something out a 1980s Bilal comic in Heavy Metal. It’s a touch expensive at present, but even so I suspect we’ll see more than a few texture-set add-ons for this one…
And your hero’s cypherpunk underworld contact in Chinatown? Sixus1’s new Outlanders Stalker might work…
Stonemason’s new interior nicely blends together sci-fi and nature, in NWX Section 18…
Some of the exotic plants from Dinoraul, such as his Pandanus tree might look interesting in the NWX Section 18 terrarium…
3DA Stella and eDarlyn for Victoria 4.2 also both look like they might be at home in Stonemason’s new NWX Section 18 scene…
Could NWX Section 18 be a room inside the Deep Core Explorer, a new deep-sea drilling/mining rig?
Need futuristic submersibles floating around your Deep Core Explorer? The new MMRship looks like it would work in a sub-sea situation…
Vue users also have a new realistic two-person submersible this month…
Anyone doing fan art or comics for The Witcher is going to feel right at home in the AJ Northern Citadel…
Also rather Witcher-esque is Dante78’s new Medieval Fisherman’s Hut, with his usual fine levels of detail…
Decorative Easel Set is currently free at DAZ…
The Easel Set could be useful for showing your characters making a painting from the deck of the new Summer Tree House Deluxe, which has a modern design that looks like it’ll suit adult characters more than a small brood of DAZ/Poser kids.
Also very pastoral is the new Portals – The Shire. This makes the fine (though rather gothic) 3 Gate Pass scene into a lush portal suitable for the furry feet of hobbit folk.
Not much steampunk/dieselpunk, this month. But Rosemill Astrometry has some nice instruments that would suit any era between about 1750 and 1900.
Oskarsson’s new Diesel Punk Clothes for Genesis 3 Females is unusual, and nicely designed. A sort of hybrid between 1930s ‘jolly hockey sticks’ girls and 1940s air cadets.
If you have Second World War / World War II uniforms in your runtime, then Predatron’s detailed new miniature set Beach Barricade may well interest…
New semi-toon standalone characters are always welcome, and this month we get several of them. NeftOoN Gal comes complete with hair and clothes. Possibly not new? Possibly just a new bundle of character + extras? Anyway, she also has a Neftoon Pal…
I’m thinking that the above two characters might be especially useful for a comic book artist making a domestic gag-strip, and looking to over-paint and/or toon their renders in Photoshop?
Packy the Toon Elephant is another toon standalone, for Poser 9+ only…
Another fine character from the same maker is Tiny, a sort of aquatic ‘fire newt’ , for Poser 10+ only…
Finally, available now is iClone 6 PRO + 3DXchange Bundle + DAZ Genesis (1 & 2 only) import, currently at a 40% discount. iClone is the mature and speedy real-time animation tool, with some excellent model and character conversion tools. Those looking to make 5-minute YouTube-size 640px animations will probably find that iClone is a better option for making animations than DAZ or Poser.
That’s it, more next month!
