Library content drag-and-drop works from Poser 13 to the Poser Pro 2014 stage, when both are loaded at the same time. I assume drag-and-drop will also work from Poser 12, which means that old-school Poser Pro 2014 users now have another option for a runtime indexing-and-finding Library, at relatively low-cost (Poser 12 is currently $29 from Graphixly, and will install happily alongside older/newer versions).

Set up and pose your 3D figure, in Poser 12 or 13. Use this Disconnect bump maps script and Poser render preset for P13 to get a clean old-school Firefly ‘line-art only’ render with ‘the speckles’ removed, rendered at maybe 1800px. The advantage of this, over Poser’s Comic Book mode, is that Firefly shows all lines.
Reduce it to 768px, take it into a good Stable Diffusion 1.5 model and use with ControlNet ‘Canny’ and suitable prompts (seen here). Here the free model/checkpoint is ADAM v4.5. Don’t forget Clip Skip 0, which seems to help in getting a plain background.
The 3D figure used here is from Nursoda. Very difficult to get the hippy ‘pebble glasses’, and the head shape and hair ‘go manga’. It’s also difficult to prevent SD from trying to make everything female. If you could find a Poser character which didn’t go manga/female, and which 99% kept the shape/outline, then you could use a colour render from Poser as a base colorising blending-layer in Photoshop. Doing that could give you consistent colouring for comics etc.

Scripts and other auto-helpers:
A script for DAZ Studio that tells you what version of Genesis character is, in your saved scene.
A useful Python script for Stable Diffusion users who have collected large local LORA stashes. The script reads the LORA name from the plaintext .PNG metadata, as found in an old image you might want to recreate. It then looks in your local LORA library, finds the LORA required to recreate that image, and copies it into your active Stable Diffusion LORA folder. You’re then ready to go, without a lot of faffing around trying to manually find the required LORA.
Got an Amazon WishList? Your personal notes on your items all became unreadably small and grey, recently. The browser UserScript ‘Amazon Wishlist item user-comments / user-notes – fix’ fixes the problem.
New software releases:
The new release Audiblez 4.0, now with a graphical user-interface. Free and open source. Create local AI audio voice readings and audiobooks, using the CPU rather than your graphics card. Possibly useful for animators who require non-robotic voices and long-form audio, produced locally.
The excellent freeware Anytxt Searcher has a new release and can now also run on Mac and Linux, as well as Windows. It quickly searches across the text inside your desktop PC’s documents. You can use regex for proximity search, by selecting ‘Regular Match’ in the search-type drop-down and then using (for example)…
\b(?:billboard\W+(?:\w+\W+){1,9}?script|script\W+(?:\w+\W+){1,9}?billboard)\b
This regex will find all instances of billboard occurring within nine words of script. You can see how useful proximity search might be if you have one of the local archives of Poser forums, such as those available on Archive.org.

Release: Audiblez with GUI
Audiblez is a free open-source AI audiobook maker using AI voices, and (as of this week) it has a graphical user-interface (GUI). It runs locally and installs on pure Python 3.x with no CUDA or PyTorch dependencies (unless you want them). It runs on the PC’s CPU not the graphics card, and (though slow) even older PCs should be able to ‘read’ a book to an audiobook audio-file overnight.
This may interest those otherwise unable to run local text-to-speech AI systems, for instance because they have an antique graphics card or Windows 7 on the target PC.
Requires: Official Python 3.7.1 64-bit or higher, or use the current Python fork for Windows 7.
Background information: Windows 7 users are blocked from running almost all local AIs due to the impassable combination of requirements for: i) NVIDIA graphics cards drivers, ii) CUDA; and iii) the PyTorch add-on for Python. The above audiobook-making software only requires pure Python 3.x and enough CPU power.
Use case: Generating AI commercial-use audio voices at length, for free, to accompany an animation, videogame, motion-comic etc.

Available in May 2025, the new Digits off-the-shelf AI box direct from NVIDIA, starting at $3,000.
Inside will be a special AI-tuned Linux system, NVIDIA’s special GB10 processor and 128GB of memory, and it should easily run local AI models of “up to 200B” in size. 70B would usually be the maximum for a local PC, so this is effectively a doubling of that capability, plus some overhead left over to run other software. Such as audio voice recognition/synthesis, potentially meaning that models such as an advanced human-ish roleplaying LLM could have real-time fluid voice conversations with a human.
The box can run as a standalone, or be plugged into a normal PC. Two can be placed side-by-side to make an ‘AI super-processor’ capable of running the largest and (arguably) the most powerful AIs. Two boxes should come in at under $10,000, thus superpowered AI becomes affordable for many small businesses. Provided they can afford the electricity — I’ve heard nothing about power consumption as yet.
It would be very interesting to see what creative hackers and tweakers can do with a $10,000 setup and the ability to run multiple AIs and other software, and have the AIs control the software (e.g. Poser, which ‘talks Python’ just as the AIs do) and talk to each other. A complete virtual movie-studio, with voice-actors, in your garage?

The list/directory “I battled through 20,000 anime girls… so you don’t have to” has updated. Tracking the best of the new artistic add-on LORAs for Stable Diffusion 1.5 and 2.1.
And don’t forget you can currently get Poser 12 for £20 in a Humble Bundle. Along with Moho 12.5, which was the last to support Poser import.

Wonder Animation
Autodesk Unveils Wonder Animation. Interesting…
* Film your sequence as live-action…
* … then an AI translates what is sees to 3D polygons and rigs (3D scene, figures, mo-cap, cameras, camera movements)
* … then you can render the 3D consistently and quickly as a toon in 3D (Maya, Blender, Unreal game engine).
The drawback appears to be that it’s an online cloud service. Not local desktop software. Still, I like the idea.
Poser 13.3.864, but 11 vanishes…
Poser is newly at Poser 13.3.864 as of 16th October 2024. Includes a September release which…
“Fixed issue where number of cores used for CPU renders was limited to 4”.
Ouch. Yes, rather useful for those with 12 or more! Check the big list of previous fixes, since it may be you still have an older version of 13 and thus are missing out on a huge amount of polish and hard-work by the dev team. Also fixed is a “memory leak” for SuperFly renders of more than 2048px.
Note also that Poser 11 has now regrettably vanished from the “Downloads Purchased” option on the official downloads page. Which seems a pity for late-comers, since 11 can happily co-exist with later versions, and a Poser 11 runtime is looked for by E-on Vue when you integrate the two softwares. Vue is now free, and I assume E-on didn’t remove the Poser SDK from their final release — but I can’t download the newly free Vue to check if 11 is still looked for / required. Since there’s region-blocking on the download and no .torrent for it.
Update: The final Vue works fine with Poser 11, in terms of importing Poser scene files.

Now on, the Reallusion 2024 ‘Animation At Work’ Competition. Deadline: 7th January 2025. Prizes, including XP-Pen ‘drawn on the screen’ pen-monitors.
Categories include “Best Use of CTA5”. I read that as “Best Use of Cats” at a glance, which would be a fun category if it existed. But no, CTA5 is version 5.x of the worthy and very well-documented desktop software Cartoon Animator (formerly CrazyTalk Animator). All entrants get a two-month free licence for CTA5.
I see the latest CTA 5.3 as a $90 upgrade from CTA3 Pipeline, at the Reallusion software store…
The “first purchase offer” coupon is because I haven’t logged in for a long time, I guess. It takes the price down to $90. The facial mo-cap bundle sounds fun, but knowing Reallusion it’ll only work with new characters which require expensive additional packs to make them work. That’s their long-time business model — low cost for the core software, and then charge like heck for all the additional stuff you need. Though admittedly, as I recall, there’s just the one version (no more ‘Pipeline’) which is something.
Restore Drag and Drop from the Poser and DAZ library software ‘PzDB’
How to restore Drag and Drop from the Poser and DAZ library software PzDB, on an older Windows OS.
Problem: Likely you have been installing various Microsoft updates and C++ redistributables and so on, on an older version of Windows. These may have overwritten elements which enable drag and drop of files from software which uses an underlying MS Access 2007 database. As a consequence, your PzDB may have lost its ability to drag-and-drop from the search results, to load the chosen file into your Poser viewport.
Solution: Get the Microsoft Office Access Runtime and Data Connectivity 2007 Service Pack 3 (SP3) at the Microsoft Update Catalog. There get the accessrtsp3-en-us cab.
Once downloaded, right-click on and unzip the .cab as if it was a normal .zip file. Once done, double-click the accessrtsp3-en-us.msp installer. The Access 2007 components will be updated. There will be no ‘success’ message, but you can tell if it worked. No need to reboot now.
Launch PzDB and your drag-and-drop capability should have returned. It worked for me. Also seems to have repaired some lost functionality on the top menu icons.
Be aware that this will overwrite the core mso.dll in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\OFFICE12 with a possibly older version than you have. This may affect Office 2007 programs such as Word and Excel.
The alterative for drag-and-drop is to use the bare-bones but excellent external AIR library in Poser Pro 2014. It’s amazingly quick at providing results. This does, however, require that Poser 2014 be running first. The Air library can launch without first launching Poser Pro 2014, but then its search-box does not return results. So 2014 does need to be running. You will also need to update AIR to the latest version, for security. What you don’t get with the Air library is PzDB’s sophisticated grouping and tagging.

Gradient Bump: Fixing a legacy texturing problem in old M4 clothes. Some old bump maps don’t work with SuperFly (Cycles) rendering. Fixing it just needs a few disconnect / connect changes in the Material Room, which are shown in the video.
HDRI control update for Poser. Native handling of HDRIs, and Python scripting control of them, has been implemented in the latest Poser. One of the benefits is a thumbnail preview of the HDRI when you load it for use with a Poser scene, which is shown here.

Newly released is Kalavai – your personal local AI cloud network. Similar to a render farm, by the sound of it. But for local AIs. Freeware.
Invoke 5.0 final is released. The best UI for artists and creative teams who want to run Stable Diffusion locally. Still free.

Release: Playbook (beta)
Playbook is an online service-based Stable Diffusion, trained specifically to generate output that looks like it was 3D rendered from textured meshes.
You can already do this on a local install of the free Stable Diffusion, with free LORA ‘plugins’. There thus seems no reason to pay for such a thing, unless Playbook…
– is remarkably better than normal Stable Diffusion;
– is more stable (at following text prompts);
– can generate 100% stable characters along with stable outfits and clothing colours;
– can also generate textured 3D meshes which can be exported.
I guess we test it and see.
Clip Studio 3.x
I see fiddly and over-complicated Clip Studio EX has gone to version 3.x. And that Clip Studio 3.1.x can now import .BVH motion files, and apply them to its primitive dummy 3D figures. And it has added “support for [import of] 3D models with shape keys”.
Also, Dark Mode is now the default UI setting.
Poser to AI
Poser real-time render to Img2Img AI, with a very simple prompt. Just a super-quick demo I made to show someone the absolute basic possibility in terms of quick transformation. Without even getting into ControlNets.
Yes, there’s an icky thumb-shadow in Poser, which has carried over to the AI. I didn’t notice that until it was too late.

Pallaidium, claimed to be an AI ‘movie generator’ and editor, based around Blender. Requires CUDA 12.4, which in combination with Python means it’s effectively for Windows 10 or 11. Free, open source, and locally run on your PC.
