The guys behind the Poser-created Anomaly comic book have a new Poser product coming soon. Faster Than Light is a new SF 3D comic complete with invisibly-embedded QR Codes which spark your phone or tablet into showing Augmented Reality overlays. Sounds a lot better than the old red-blue cellophane glasses!

Poser 11 to integrate Blender Cycles render engine
Interesting. Project Manager for Poser, Charles Taylor, reports that Poser 11 is set to plug in the powerful Cycles rendering engine from Blender…
“Poser 11 will include … Our new render engine … based on the Cycles engine of Blender fame. Don’t worry; the familiar FireFly render engine is still going to be there. We’re just giving you another rendering option.”
“Poser’s integration of Cycles, (currently code named SuperFly) is going to give you a much-requested feature: rendered caustics. SuperFly will use the same material room you already know from FireFly. You won’t need to learn a new material interface.”
And since I seem to remember that Blender Cycles does glow very well indeed, this may (my guess) also bring a proper spillover glow effect to Poser users?
Survey of new and fab content for Daz Studio and Poser: July 2015
It’s moving towards the end of the month, so it’s time for my survey of the most striking new content that’s just become available for Poser, Daz Studio, and Vue. I guess many of the freelance scene/character/props making creatives are off on their summer holidays, but there’s still quite a nice selection of new items…
The famous Stonemason has released a new domestic interior for his growing ‘contemporary apartments’ series, The Pool House for DAZ Studio…
And, of course, in Stonemason’s sci-fi future no apartment is ever complete without its own walk-in Robotics Lab to maintain the robot assistants…
And what about adding a talking-point sculpture to your new Stonemason apartment? Predatron’s new Classical Morphing Bust is an unusual item for DAZ Studio, that might just suit…
The Forestals are an unusual and well-designed forest family of characters for M4, V4 and Kids4 (K4). The faces are especially well made…
Also at Runtime DNA, the new Arcane Seer seems to fit with the Forestals’ design aesthetic…
Need fresh and convincing child characters to explore the weirdly magical forest? Skyler for Genesis 2 Female is a very high-quality base character, from the expert character designers at 3D Universe…
The new Explorer Diary stones are meant for sci-fi exoplanets, but might suit a mysterious forest inhabited by the likes of the Arcane Seer and Forestals…
Flink’s Flinks Green Hills…
Need a foreground for your green hill? Quality outdoors-man Merlin Studios obliges with a new Wild Borders foliage and scene set for DAZ Studio…
Creepy Crawler for Poser looks like a lot of fun…
I’ve pretty sure I’ve never seen a quality Ventriloquist’s Dummy for Poser, but here it is…
Need a weird Ventriloquist to operate your new Dummy? VYK Cosplay…
Equally unusual is the Millenium Dog (Poser) makeover that is War Dogs for Mil Dog…
There are also War Unicorns for Mil Horse. I like the idea — take a character like Mil Dog or Mil Horse that everyone has in their runtime, and give it a armour/robot makeover…
Last month’s Vue Rusted Space Tug is now also available for Poser…
A classic Scenicruiser 1954 long-haul Greyhound bus for Poser, and a basic matching Bus Station…
DryJack’s Dunster station is a fine example of the classic British village train station…
Runtime DNA has a Fun in the Sun Props pack for free…
Vintage British Caravan and 1960s chairs, plus HD materials and interior…
For those with a taste for more exotic holiday destinations, Vue users have the new high ice plateau Silk Road High and the tropical Holiday Villages…
That’s it! More next month.
Freebie: classic 1950s dress for V4
A nice new retro freebie from Japan, which will interest many readers of this blog. A classic 1950s dress (page linked via Google Translate). For Poser (V4/A4), with 4 MATs plus morphs.
Cool content survey for Daz Studio and Poser: June 2015
What’s new in June 2015, for Poser and Daz? I’ve already noted Victoria 7 for Genesis Female 3 a few days ago. Here’s what else has caught my eye this month.
20th century retro seems to be hot this month. Luthbel’s Eldritch Seeker for Genesis 2 Male is a vintage hard-boiled American city boy, who is poised in time somewhere between 1928 and 1948. As readers will no doubt know, “Eldritch” refers to the macabre mythos of H.P. Lovecraft — but this character could have many uses in a vintage American setting.
Blue Sky Biplane is a sweet plane from the same era as Eldritch Seeker…
A vintage wooden Electric Chair and Bank Vault and Indoor Gun Firing Range are all new, and would all fit with a gangster-ish / pulp noir scenario for using your Eldritch Seeker character.
The new An Abandoned Mine is just the sort of place your Eldritch Seeker is going to find at the end of his quest….
Or you could just ‘go the whole Cthulhu’ and send your Eldritch Seeker to The Mountains of Madness, with the help of a complete 1910s-1930s era Antarctica Expedition: The Encampment, Sled and Poses…
Also very nicely retro is the Retro Space Suit for Genesis 2 Male which has a 1930s-1960s vibe about it, strongly brought out by the additional Retro Space Suit Textures pack…
A companion female spacesuit set is the new Starlight for Genesis 2 Female and Starlight Textures pack…
They might look good in the new Columbus, a weightlessness 20th-century space station interior room, from new DAZ content creator Bricabrake…
Also fairly space-y / sci-fi is Leather Body Suit for Genesis 2 Female. It seems like a very flexible base outfit with fine leather bump-mapping, for everything from super-spies to superheroes to kink. I suspect there will be a lot of texture packs for this one.
Leather Body Suit might work well alongside the Solar Vagabonds for Genesis 2 Male, in a near-future Mars colonists setting or similar.
Timothy HD for Michael 6 seems like a very characterful male…
Edit Hair for Genesis 2 Males is for your Young Urban Creative Entrepreneur (Yucee, pronounced ‘you-see’) type of character. Plus a Colors for Edit Male Hair pack…
In general scenes, the Science Classroom is a classic school science lab of yesteryear, from the era before risk-averse schools locked the door to the hydrogen sulfide cabinet and sealed off the Bunsen burners. The new Detention Room has props that might add to the Science Classroom.
The Lost Place is a rather flexible looking place, rather RPG-ish but perfect for everything from sprites, dragons, mystic rites and ancient invocations. For Poser/Daz, but I’m pretty sure that some of those good ol’ Vue atmospheres could look great wrapped around it…
The Lost Place is just the sort of spot you might find the WitchHunter lurking in…
The Vampire Hunting Kit would be a nice add-on set of props for your WitchHunter…
Your WitchHunter is probably chasing this guy, the new “Creepy Kid Too” — though any LOTR fan knows who he really is, my preciousss, oh yesss… He also has a pose pack and expressions. He just needs a really good texture add-on, I’d say, to turn him fully into Gollum. Of course, then you’d have to stick to non-commercial use, since he’s a recognized movie character.
Not much in terms of new animals this month, but what there is is quality. There’s another very fine new Dinoraul dinosaur, the TarbosaurusDR…
And Songbird ReMix has released his Birds of Prey Vol. 5…
Finally, lucky Vue users can now have the beautifully steampunk-ish Rusted space tug…
That’s it, for now!
Tomorrowland 3D content survey, for DAZ and Poser
Here’s my little survey of 3D costumes and props for Poser and Daz Studio, that seem to resemble the sets and costuming of the movie Tomorrowland. May be useful for making fan-art and comics. Warning: spoilers!
Dreamlight’s CS City in .OBJ…
You can also find a variety of Tomorrowland buildings free on Google 3D Warehouse in .skp format.
There are also possible suitable .OBJs in Construction Kit, though you may also find similar retro freebies around too…
For a convincing field of wheat you’re probably going to need Vue’s Incredibly Lush Wheat Fields…
AJ’s Sparrow looks like it’s from Tomorrowland…
Sci-fi Marine Jet Pack has a Tomorrowland-like jet pack…
V4 sci-fi pilot could be a base for something fairly similar to the spaceport pilot suits in Tomorrowland…
AJ Airport might be similar to the monorail terminal that takes Casey to the spaceport…
The GIS Orion interior has futuristic tables and chairs…

CC81 looks like a possible backdrop for the young teen Frank and his mentor Nix to have a discussion about the early development of The Monitor…
Curious Stacked Shack (for Vue) could suit Frank’s nostalgic self as a home in the wheat, in the years after the movie closes…
There’s a NASA Launch complex for Poser which could be combined with MS12 Service Gantry for added complexity…
Rocketship-X1 is quite nice, if nearer to Amelia Earhart’s “Running Start” 1920s attempt to enter Tomorrowland for Plus Ultra (according to the ARG comic-book cover). The 1920s style raised cabin could be hidden, and the rocket retextured and greebled for a unique 1890s look…
And there’s an Eiffel Tower for Poser — althought the French have been known to get very fussy about the use of its shape in art (without a permit from the French authorities).
Moonbeam 33 looks like something you might find at the 1964 World’s Fair…
So does Bus Maxis…
Meshbox’s Fedoraville set of buildings seem to be just-about suitable for making 1964 World’s Fair backdrops.
Biscuits Girl Fashion dress is perhaps the closest to Athena’s distinctive dress, though it may need an extra crinoline and an additional skirt layer from the Paige Dress on top.
Modern-day Athena’s wardrobe is also fairly generic, though Teen Swag and Teen Swag Textures might get you somewhere close…
Add Athena’s gun (a very cool cross between a Star Trek phaser, a Flash Gordon gun, and a western six-shooter), a denim jacket with red vertical braces-like flashes, a sort of pirate belt, and red canvas shoes like these…
Older Frank has a distinctive-but-subtle look in the movie that’s a bit early 1960s, but also modern. It’s difficult to pin down, and is no doubt the result of months of work by the Disney costumiers. Younger Frank is easier to match with generic 1960s clothing such as kids’ dungarees and smart casual wear for the Fair. There’s also a handy SteamPunk JetPack that could be scaled down. With some retexturing, this might get you some way towards a jet-pack for young Frank.
Retro and Junkyard Jetpacks also takes you some way there, though it’s far too much like a missile without any editing…
The Buddy-Bot is probably closest to the city’s construction robots…
There’s a Hover Platform for young Frank to fall off, although the one in the movie is more futuristic…
Casey’s normal teenage streetwear, backpack and NASA cap is harder to track down, since it’s fairly generic. But it’s out there somewhere.
For a cameo hippy storekeeper, try Urban Rebels for Remendado. There are also plenty of stylised 1950s ray-guns around. Remember, folks… never trust a hippy! 🙂
GIS Emperor for Genesis 2 Male and GIS for Genesis Male gets somewhere close to Governor Nix and his underlings…
There are a variety of fab accessories used in the movie, including the disintegrator or perhaps a teleporter(?) weapon. Here’s a Disney 3D render of this, if you want to go looking for something similar online as a 3D model, or recreate it yourself.
I seem to vaguely remember that there’s a George Clooney -alike character somewhere, for Poser/Daz. Given the number of girls there are for Poser/Daz, there’s probably one fairly close to either Athena or Casey, too. Same goes for young Frank, who has a fairly generic corn-fed boy face.
That’s it! Have fun!
Update: Greg for M4 resembles Governor Nix…

Survey of new content for Poser and DAZ studio, May 2015
Gosh, is it that time of the month again? Here’s my personal pick of the most interesting new DAZ Studio and Poser 3d content that has appeared in May 2015.
The top 3d stage-set this month is undoubtedly Stonemason’s The Streets Of Old London 3d environment, made with Stonemason’s usual professional attention to detail. Suitable for everything from Sherlock Holmes through steampunk to Edwardian-era intrigue and mystery. (By the way, if Stonemason is reading this, 3D Art Direct magazine would like to interview you, please).
Need male attire for Streets of Old London? New is the Grantham Hall Suit and Bon Vivant textures addon.
Need some crazy swivel-eyed Cthulhu cultists running around the streets of Stonemason’s Old London? There are new Monks Robes for Genesis 2 Males.
From the early Edwardian era as Old London is the very detailed Desert Pathfinders for Genesis 2 Males and Desert Pathfinder Textures set.
Secluded Shoreline looks like a potentially useful stage set / environment. Good to see the old Poser Dog getting an outing in the promo pictures, too!
Western Town also looks like a nicely detailed setting. A complete town, but all the samples images appear to have been rendered using Reality 4 rather than DAZ.
Fitting in well with the Wild West theme is the new Old Gold Mine…
Another lovely fantasy/sci-fi building at Renderosity, Swamp house…
Below is a 100% geometry landscape “in OBJ”, a classic fantasy lane in the Morrowind etc style, called Northern Soul. Complete with a demo scene for Poser with lighting and render settings already set up. Octane render material files are included. Would probably also look good in Vue / Keyshot / Reality etc…
Liquid Lab looks very detailed and useful for a wide variety of “oh, no, the experiment went wrong and released the Deadly Triffids!” scenarios…
Definitely not an olde scurvy dogg, there’s a complete Pirate Booty outfit for STAR!.
Bubbles, a charming new semi-toon character from CHK2033. Poser 10+ only.
Valandar’s Jabberwock II looks like a nice new body, but the face seems lacking compared to Valandar’s previous version of it — which stuck more to Tenniel’s famous original vision. I do hope the change isn’t due to some spurious copyright claim by the Dodgson or Tenniel heirs.
Droid Kit is a near-future humanoid sci-fi droid with lots of swop-out power tools.
I note that Geeksatplay are now on the Concucopia (Vue) store. Their new Light Up Screen tutorial shows how to create glowing holo-screen effects in Vue.
Also for Vue, the interesting Lonely Rocks setting.
Finally, the Bat Bike is free on Renderosity, for Poser and DAZ Studio. For non-commercial use only, as it’s Batman fanart.
That’s it! More next month.
Stonemason’s new The Streets of London
A new release from Stonemason is always welcome, especially when it’s steampunk oriented and huge. His The Streets Of Old London is available now at a 49% discount…
“Travel back in time to the magnificent Streets Of Old London. Explore everything along the paved cobblestones from Masons’ Printing Service Publishing House, East End Theatre, Vaudeville, 36 Douglas Street, Canterbury Shipping Ship Builders, Big Ben… This outstandingly detailed environment offers an accurate representation of London in the late 1800’s – early 1900’s.”
Kitty literal
One of the finest Poser characters has been ‘brought to life’ by 3D Printing. It’s ‘Robo Kitty’, albeit with a surface that looks more potato than polished.
SA Kitty Mass first shipped for free with Poser 7, and continues to ship with the Poser free-content bundle and once installed is found under “Toys”. Handily, Kitty takes V4 poses.
DAZ Studio & Poser 3d content survey: April 2015
So, what eyecatching 3d content survey has been released for DAZ Studio and Poser in April 2015? Here’s my personal selection:
Mech Gear for Genesis 2 is nice new sci-fi spacesuit with a Japanese influence…
Need a toon sidekick for your Mech Gear space characters? Gini is an apparently new toon hi-poly robot, though I’m sure I’ve seen something very similar somewhere before…
Inevitably, there’s a lot of new content for the successful new Star! toon character at Runtime DNA, including Toonitude Pinup poses and Star 1950s dress with textures…
Useful for Victorian/Edwardian scenes and steampunk art, Edwardian Hair for Genesis and Genesis 2 Females…
Also useful for a steampunk street scene, the unusual One Man Band for Genesis 2 Males. I’d love to see this fitted to Doctor Pitterbill…
A little more into the valvepunk era is the Slapstick for Genesis 2 Males outfit, which comes with Buster Keaton like character preset…
If you need Buster to be chased by a runaway locomotive train, the detailed and nicely textured GWR Pannier Tank Engine might do the trick.
Alessandro’s Foxes, together with presets for his Look At My Hair plugin for DAZ Studio…
Deinocheirus is certainly an unusual looking dinosaur! Apparently this did actually roam the earth, once upon a time…
Cobra Lily is another for artists who collect alien looking flora, for use in planet surface sci-fi or dinosaur scenes…
Finally, Faveral’s new Fantasy Warship looks fun, for those who have enough suitable characters to fill it and some nice ocean surfaces in their runtime…
DAZ Studio & Poser content survey: March 2015
So, it’s been a while since I did a “What’s New and Cool?” 3d content survey for DAZ Studio and Poser. Here’s my selection:
Runtime DNA and LittleFox’s new STAR! character is a pro-quality toon that’s already gathered a growing range of add-on extras. The core would seem to be the character, a CrossDresser 4 License for Star, the Violet for Star pack, your choice of the current hair for Star, plus Intensity Expressions for Star and Flitter Expressions For Star.
Honey Bolt is an unusual but stylish toonbot, with lots of looks and options…
Stonemason’s industrial Sci Fi Interior 2015…
A cloud-floating Sci Fi Marina and matching Sky Yacht, though you might have to take it to Vue as an .obj to do it justice…
Need something to zoom through the clouds and attack your Sci Fi Marina? London224’s MS15 Alien Drone might oblige…
ile-avalon’s Android Repair Kit is amusing…
The Alien Collector, a nice accompaniment to a collection of 3d alien flora and fauna…
Tree of Life is an interesting and detailed alien “pod tree”…
1971s Fishing Village is nicely organic, and looks like it’s located somewhere between Morrowind and Myst…
The price is rather high, but I like the above/below split scene idea of the Muelsfell Victorian Street Display Base. I could imagine making a set of H.P. Lovecraft / steampunk game playing cards with this and some quality lighting and characters…
Stonemason’s new Ruins Of Egypt 1 and The Path To Cloud Temple…
Dante78 has a finely detailed Medieval Training Camp, that could be re-worked as an Iron Age / Roman-era / Saxon structure…
Need a highly detailed camel, complete with all the traditional accessories? Meet Camelia…
Alessandro_AM’s uber-cute semi-toon Bear Cubs. These work with his Look At My Hair DAZ Studio plugin…
His Panda Bear Cub is also available on its own…
Vue users have a detailed 1.3M poly Sci-fi Chamber, though it seems you’re going to primarily use lights to colour it…
Also for Vue, a late 15th to early 17th century English paneled room, though the glass is too modern. A great nobleman might have had flawed crystal windows that looked a bit like old stained glass, a middling noble might have had fine translucent slivers of oak or horn in his window panes, and a poor scholar or alchemist might have used wicker.
… and a detailed Tiki Bar and a steampunk friendly Collector’s Facility.
iClone 6 Pro is now available…
And the design and sculpt tool Curvy 3D 3.0 is also available…
That’s it, for now!
Using Terradome with Poser
Coming soon, a free webinar in using Runtime DNA’s TerraDome landscape software with Poser…
Product Manager wanted for Poser
The Poser developer team are looking for a Product Manager.
Stock wig cutouts for Daz and Poser renders
It seems that no-one has ever taken a range of realistic wigs, photographed them pin-sharp and hanging from different angles against a good greenscreen, then used the pictures to create a royalty-free stock library of cut-out hair? With no stands, manniquin heads or other elements showing. Just the hair, looking as though it’s actually sitting on a head and not slumped on a desk. I just can’t find anything like that. A search for “wig” on Thinkstock finds only one suitable ‘isolated’ (cut-out) image, on Shutterstock there’s two, and even those have the shadows and highlights too stark…
In the age of Reality 4, is the ‘bad hair day’ hair we usually have to put up with in 3D renders holding back our art? While also massively boosting the render times, I might add, even if you have software that can ‘grow’ and ‘style’ its own hair. Wouldn’t it be easier for many portrait picture makers to ‘Photoshop on’ some quality hair afterwards, from a good stock collection? And ideally one slanted toward sci-fi and fantasy hair, rather than middle America blow-dry styles taken from the 1977 Hairstylists’ Guide, of the sort that painted stock hair collections seem to favour?
Post-Christmas new content survey: 2015
It’s still a little early in the month, but I’m taking my monthly look at some of most eye-catching content released on the Poser and Daz stores since Christmas:
Steel Town Blast Furnace is large and unusual. Often the sort of setting used at the end of 1980s gangster and cop movies, and some types of superhero movies (Wolverine, Spiderman). Which shows that the pro’s have found it to be a usefully generic setting…
Want the Hulk to come along and “SMASSHHH!!!” your Blast Furnace? Well, just slip the new Ogora the Orc HD into the nearest phone booth for a superhero quick-change and… you might get Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk character. Even as an Orc, he has more character than many of the generic orcs available for Poser and Daz…
The Wild West seems to be deeply unfashionable these days, killed off by self-indulgent dross like the dire Lone Ranger movie and rubbish ‘comedies’ like A Million Ways to Die in the West. But Western Outlaw for Genesis 2 Male looks like a fine outfit, and could fit nicely in a historical scene alongside last month’s DAZ release of the American Bison…
An equally cool new wilderness outfit is for V4, the Pulp Heroes: The Explorer for V4…
Songbird ReMix: Birds of Prey Vol 3, Hawks of the New World offers American Hawks for Poser-only, to the usual superb standard of the Songbird ReMix series…
The toon character Pink is not at all well-served by his initial promo picture on the store. Nor by his ‘search-engine unfriendly’ name. But behind that there’s an interesting-looking aquatic sprogling character from new developer Chk2033, just crying out for immersion in a sparkling Spore-like pond…
Pagan Throne seems a suitable setting for the Winter Birds masked fantasy characters (requires The Owls for V4 and M4)…
If I were making a Doctor Who 3d comic and I wanted a cool new-look Tardis that hadn’t yet been used by anyone else, I might try to adapt and retexture the pods of the new retro-style Cryogenic Chamber from BlueTreeStudio…
Steam Outpost is another in 1971s’s extensive fantasy-architecture series. Nicely Morrowind-meets-Myst. Equally nice is his new steampunk Diesel Daisy…
Also in steampunk, Cybertenko has a rigged Poser Turtle Submersible, a copy of the first submarine in America. This is available free as a static mesh elsewhere, but Cybertenko has obviously done a great job of fully rigging it…
That’s it for now!
