ZBrush Core 2020 has been released. Core is the cheaper $180 perpetual licence version of the sculpting behemoth and it includes Sculptris Pro. The latest version of Sculptris for $180 is possibly the news of most interest to hobbyists and freelancers. Otherwise, the most interesting new feature of Core seems to be that…
“Artists can now precisely match the focal length of imported photographs and 3D renders. It is also now possible to export or import the ZBrush camera settings for use in any 3D application, opening the path of rich 2D composited illustrations”
Sounds useful, although I’m unsure if that’s smoothly-semi-automatic or fiddly-and-awkward. In terms of workflows, in my limited experience ZBrush leans heavily toward the fiddly-and-awkward end of the spectrum.
ZBrush Core apparently has no .FBX import/export.
The other problem with getting NPR “illustrations” from ZBrush is the difficulty of HD print-res with anti-aliasing, something which seemed to be inherent to the engine the last time I looked .
