My GPU driver update and OpenGL upgrade has enabled Blender 2.8 for me. Previously it would not even load its user interface. So I tried Emiliano Colantoni’s Wasp Bot demo .blend again. It’s now nice and smooth when orbited and tilted in Eevee. Better than when I tried it back in September 2017. Then it took about “40 seconds” for the textures to load in, and now it’s perhaps 8 seconds. Nice. I could also increase anti-aliasing, and the camera moves were still responsive.
However, trying to “Render” this to a graphic, in either Eevee or Cycles, crashes Blender to the desktop every time. Every damn time. Oh well, it’s a nice real-time viewport and one can take screenshots of it I guess… but this doesn’t change my opinion that one needs a powerful graphics-card these days to run Blender.
