So, my PayPal balance is drained at present, after the daily trickle-surge of pre-Black Friday sales from Renderosity and DAZ over the last few weeks. I’ve probably spent about $75 in total, and have picked up a whole load of very nice content which would have had a normal-retail value of around $450. What would get me spending again, come Black Friday (29th November 2019)?
Of course, a $75 16-core AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3950X ($750) 24-core CPU, or a $100 GeForce RTX 2080Ti GPU graphics card (around $1,000) would do it… ha ha. But I don’t see those reaching pocket-money prices any time soon.
If someone could bring back my old Cornucopia Wishlist of Vue content and plonk it on a DVD, that would also have me delving my PayPal. But again, unlikely to happen. All that stuff seems to be gone forever, unless the makers can band together and get it online again.
So, other than Vanishing Point’s old Horror Investigator (M4) outfit, which I recently noticed, my PayPal is most likely to be unlocked by seeing a sale on utilities and conversion stuff. Such as…
* The “La Femme CrossDresser License”, for clothing conversion to La Femme. I’ve been a cheapskate here, and am waiting to see if it becomes a “60% off” door-buster for Black Friday. Other Crossdresser licences would also be of interest.
* “XA – Toolbar for Poser” looks interesting. A configurable hot-button panel for Poser. Though I think there’s a new feature in Poser 11 that can do something similar. I should look into that. It was the Custom Dial Palette I was thinking of, and no it’s not the same.
* “MATWriter Panel 2014”. Easy creation of custom MAT presets for characters and props. This is sold at both Renderosity and Hivewire, so watch both for sale discounts.
* “PhilC’s Python for Poser” book. Actually… can we just crowd-fund to put this in the public-domain, please? Or Renderosity could buy the rights from him and sell it for a nominal $1.99. Admittedly, there is already the C:\Program Files\Smith Micro\Poser 11\Poser Python Methods Manual.pdf that ships with Poser, and which was updated for Poser 11 with the SR3 patch. But while a fine annotated index to the commands it’s not Phil’s step-by-step guide to making scripts, intended to skill up beginners.
In non Poser/DAZ stuff, I’d spring for a Comiccraft font or two, for comics lettering. But they’re usually around $80 each, being high-quality in terms of letter-spacing and more, and I doubt they’ll come down into my price-range unless some get a one-day 80% door-buster discount.
DeviantArt CORE is usually only via a “recurring annual membership on a credit card”… so that’s not happening. Give us PayPal, please, and thus the ability to easily cancel a recurring annual payment without any hassle. Incidentally, if you got a PayPal annual subscription on a previous Black Friday, now may be the time to look at cancelling before it auto-renews. I said goodbye that way to the 500px service (hacked, like Flickr before it) this year, and saved $60.
