A little more useful information on BVH motions and Poser, following my recent post and link to the CMU conversion set.
Reallusion shipped a BVH Motion Converter 5 with iClone. This was a simple utility that had auto-conversion profiles for Poser. It loads .BVH and .HTR files.
It shipped with the Pro version of iClone 5, but not with the Standard version or with later versions. iClone 5.51 Pro was the “last good” version of iClone, before the changed UI and other regrettable changes, and as such I still have it on my PC along with its bundled utilities.
For others, just getting hold of iClone 5 may not give you this utility in a form useful for Poser, since use with Poser required a set of installed profiles for Poser downloaded from Reallusion and now no longer available (even from Wayback). As such, unless you already have this and its Poser profiles on your PC, you may have to seek out other converter software that ‘knows’ about how to save the way Poser wants it.
However, Poser 11 itself is now your BVH motion converter to Poser.
Another useful item to know about is Ockham’s BVH Mixer. This free script still works fine and will let you import a BVH and lop off the weird bits that don’t work on your character, then save to a new BVH.
There’s also a free BVHViewer 1.1, made by Ben from Development in Motion for quickly previewing BVH motions. “Quickly scroll through a folder of BVH motion files”. Big window, good preview. Still available via Archive.org.
