I learned this from finding a new forum thread<\/a>, which jogged my memory about the game. Greatly enjoyed by me at the time, along with the fantasy variant Hexen<\/em>. The forum thread also suggested the mod Rylayeh<\/a> for DOOM II<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Via search, I found five more mods (aka wads) that are substantial and have good reviews…<\/p>\n

Shrine 1.2<\/a> for DOOM II<\/em>. A “Lovecraftian Total Conversion mod!”<\/p>\n

Void<\/a> for DOOM II<\/em>. “Lovecraft meets Lewis Carroll”. Uses ZDoom.<\/p>\n

Strange Aeons v5.7<\/a> for DOOM II<\/em>. Huge Lovecraftian total conversion. Uses ZDoom.<\/p>\n

Beyond Kadath<\/a> for DOOM II<\/em>. “A story-driven WAD roughly in the vein of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos.”<\/p>\n

Maskim Xul<\/a> for DOOM II<\/em>. “One of the winners of the 2018 Cacowards.”<\/p>\n

The game itself can be had on CD via eBay for around \u00a315. It’s obviously become collectable, despite the vast quantities it sold, and the days of getting a jewel-case for \u00a31.99 inc. shipping seem over. More affordable is the download at GOG.com for \u00a34<\/a> including “the enhanced re-release” of 2019. Then you download ZDoom<\/a> \/ GZDoom<\/a> and run it through that, giving the old game enhanced powers.
