The final boss is supposed to be Yog-Sothoth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I learned this from finding a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doomworld.com\/forum\/topic\/144542-any-lovecraft-themed-wads-similar-to-strage-ehons\/\">forum thread<\/a>, which jogged my memory about the game. Greatly enjoyed by me at the time, along with the fantasy variant <em>Hexen<\/em>. The forum thread also suggested the mod <a href=\"https:\/\/doomwiki.org\/wiki\/Rylayeh\">Rylayeh<\/a> for <em>DOOM II<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Via search, I found five more mods (aka wads) that are substantial and have good reviews&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moddb.com\/mods\/shrine\/downloads\/shrine-12#downloadsform\">Shrine 1.2<\/a> for <em>DOOM II<\/em>. A &#8220;Lovecraftian Total Conversion mod!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.doomworld.com\/idgames\/levels\/doom2\/Ports\/v-z\/void\">Void<\/a> for <em>DOOM II<\/em>. &#8220;Lovecraft meets Lewis Carroll&#8221;. Uses ZDoom.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forum.zdoom.org\/viewtopic.php?p=854693#p854693\">Strange Aeons v5.7<\/a> for <em>DOOM II<\/em>. Huge Lovecraftian total conversion. Uses ZDoom.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.doomworld.com\/idgames\/levels\/doom2\/Ports\/a-c\/beydkdth\">Beyond Kadath<\/a> for <em>DOOM II<\/em>. &#8220;A story-driven WAD roughly in the vein of H.P. Lovecraft&#8217;s Cthulhu Mythos.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/doomwiki.org\/wiki\/Maskim_Xul\">Maskim Xul<\/a> for <em>DOOM II<\/em>. &#8220;One of the winners of the 2018 Cacowards.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The game itself can be had on CD via eBay for around \u00a315. It&#8217;s obviously become collectable, despite the vast quantities it sold, and the days of getting a jewel-case for \u00a31.99 inc. shipping seem over. More affordable is the download at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gog.com\/en\/game\/doom_ii\">GOG.com for \u00a34<\/a> including &#8220;the enhanced re-release&#8221; of 2019. Then you download <a href=\"https:\/\/zdoom.org\/downloads\">ZDoom<\/a> \/ <a href=\"https:\/\/doomwiki.org\/wiki\/GZDoom\">GZDoom<\/a> and run it through that, giving the old game enhanced powers.
