The result of three-person collaborative &#8216;art game&#8217;, derived from a children&#8217;s game. He doesn&#8217;t mention this, but it struck me how similar this is to how later artists have depicted the basic idea of Lovecraft&#8217;s bibliophile &#8216;Great Race&#8217; in &#8220;The Shadow Out Of Time&#8221;. Including the scale with humans.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/2024-02-10_110656.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/2024-02-10_110656.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"671\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-63147\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/2024-02-10_110656.jpg 540w, https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/2024-02-10_110656-528x671.jpg 528w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Exhibition History&#8221; (the University of Chicago currently holds the original) only reveals a 1984 showing, but one wonders if Lovecraft might have seen it before &#8220;Shadow&#8221; (1934-35).<\/p>\n<p>For comparison, however, here is Lovecraft&#8217;s own at-the-time drawing of the Great Race&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/greatrace.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/greatrace.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"516\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-63148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/greatrace.jpg 2096w, https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/greatrace-528x516.jpg 528w, https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/greatrace-768x750.jpg 768w, https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/greatrace-1536x1500.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/greatrace-2048x2000.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not so similar, though admittedly the viewing angle is different.
