Howard<\/a><\/em>. Howard scholars appear to have disliked the book&#8217;s Freudian &#8216;digging&#8217; for neuroses and more, the fashionable &#8216;armchair psychoanalysis&#8217; of the sort quite common in 1970s biographies. Seems to have been partly written 1970-74, at a guess as an offshoot of de Camp&#8217;s Lovecraft biography.
