These are&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>* \u201cThe Dweller\u201d (1934) by William Lumley. [Definite HPL revision]<br \/>\n* \u201cShadows\u201d (1934) by William Lumley.<br \/>\n* \u201cThe Elder Thing\u201d (1935) by William Lumley. [&#8220;Perhaps&#8221; a HPL revision]<\/p>\n<p>The first and last are obviously chanter-poems meant for oral recital in the old lugubrious manner, and are rather lively in their way. <\/p>\n<p>Of the three <em>The Ancient Track<\/em> has only the first, &#8220;The Dweller&#8221;, in the appendix &#8220;Lovecraft\u2019s Revisions of Poetry&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p><em>The Lovecraft Encyclopedia<\/em> has&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>HPL also revised Lumley\u2019s &#8220;occasional bits of verse&#8221;, perhaps including &#8220;The Elder Thing&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8230; but says nothing of &#8220;Shadows&#8221;. It does seem poor and different compared to the other two, and it doesn&#8217;t feel like one Lovecraft revised.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in poetry this week, <a href=\"http:\/\/loneanimator.blogspot.com\/2021\/11\/sonnets-of-midnight-hours-vision-of.html\"><em>The Lone Animator<\/em> announces<\/a> he is working on a stop-motion animation for Donald Wandrei&#8217;s poetry sequence &#8220;Sonnets of the Midnight Hours&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Walking the Strangeways digs up Three poems by William Lumley (1934-1935) of Buffalo N.Y.
