{"id":44223,"date":"2021-01-05T20:42:35","date_gmt":"2021-01-05T17:42:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tentaclii.wordpress.com\/?p=44223"},"modified":"2021-01-05T20:42:35","modified_gmt":"2021-01-05T17:42:35","slug":"travel-in-1937","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/index.php\/2021\/01\/05\/travel-in-1937\/","title":{"rendered":"Travel in 1937"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Extracted and cleaned by me from a new magazine upload at Archive.org, here is transport as it was envisioned in Lovecraft&#8217;s final year by an illustrator whose name appears to be &#8220;Glenn Grore&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/1937-glenn-grore-3k.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/1937-glenn-grore-3k.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"750\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-44225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; made all the more interesting today by the slightly sinister black beetle-shape of the car in the bottom-left (one thinks of the &#8220;beetle-race&#8221; that Lovecraft had supplanting humanity), and the glimpse of a giant airship in the top-left.<\/p>\n<p>Possibly this could give a creative lead for a book-cover designer, considering how best to tackle a book collection of the very best of Lovecraft&#8217;s many travel accounts? I imagine such a book as being accounts of the vehicles and travel itself, rather than the destinations.  This would not be without some weird interest, for instance his letter recounting a nightmare involving waiting for a sinister tram-car to start.
