They don&#8217;t appear on all maps, but they are on this one of Providence&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/twin-islands.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/twin-islands.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"632\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-25498\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At that time I was unable to find an actual photo of them.  The photo is now found, and it also looks like it has a date that more or less fits&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/twin-islands-plib.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/twin-islands-plib.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"332\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-57706\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/twin-islands-plib.jpg 1695w, https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/twin-islands-plib-528x332.jpg 528w, https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/twin-islands-plib-768x483.jpg 768w, https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/twin-islands-plib-1536x965.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The cameraman was up on Fort Hill and the picture looks up the Seekonk which then curves around to the left and goes out of sight. As a strong lad Lovecraft was a keen rower in a boat on the Seekonk, and he went down past the bridge and landed on these islands&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I used to row considerably on the Seekonk &#8230; Often I would land on one or both of the Twin Islands \u2014 for islands (associated with remote secrets, pirate treasure, and all that) always fascinated me.\u201d &mdash; Lovecraft letter to Rimel, April 1934.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Being rather tidal, presumably they had a quite <em>Dagon<\/em>-ish texture underfoot&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When at last I awaked, it was to discover myself half sucked into a slimy expanse of hellish black mire which extended about me in monotonous undulations as far as I could see, and in which my boat lay grounded some distance away. &mdash; &#8220;Dagon<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back in May 2019 I posted here on the Twin Islands.
