{"id":31549,"date":"2019-09-20T05:06:32","date_gmt":"2019-09-20T02:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tentaclii.wordpress.com\/?p=31549"},"modified":"2019-09-20T05:06:32","modified_gmt":"2019-09-20T02:06:32","slug":"the-foot-of-college-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/index.php\/2019\/09\/20\/the-foot-of-college-street\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday \u2018Picture Postals\u2019 from Lovecraft: The foot of College Street"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following my recently pictorial surveys of the top of College Street, around Lovecraft&#8217;s final home, here are some nice clear views of the lower end of the street and its hill.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/bottom-college-hill-providence.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/bottom-college-hill-providence.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"541\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-31233\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the same view about five years later as postcard&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/providence-ri-college-hill-trolley-c1905.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/providence-ri-college-hill-trolley-c1905.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"836\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-31253\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And perhaps another few years on, at the dawn of the automobile-age&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/board-of-trades-showing-college-st-providence-ri.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/board-of-trades-showing-college-st-providence-ri.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"397\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-31254\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lovecraft possibly about 15 years old by that time.<\/p>\n<p>And further along in the automobile-age, the same junction in 1935, in which the illustrator rather optimistically imagined that fast cars and pedestrians would mix.
