{"id":31265,"date":"2019-09-16T06:23:13","date_gmt":"2019-09-16T03:23:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tentaclii.wordpress.com\/?p=31265"},"modified":"2019-09-16T06:23:13","modified_gmt":"2019-09-16T03:23:13","slug":"the-new-ray-bradbury-review-horror-special","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/index.php\/2019\/09\/16\/the-new-ray-bradbury-review-horror-special\/","title":{"rendered":"The New Ray Bradbury Review: horror special"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest edition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kentstateuniversitypress.com\/2018\/the-new-ray-bradbury-review-no-6-2019\/\"><em>The New Ray Bradbury Review<\/em>, No. 6, 2019<\/a> is on Bradbury&#8217;s horror. <\/p>\n<p>Do make sure to look at the publisher&#8217;s blurb, as it&#8217;s a small masterpiece&#8230; of cringing defensiveness, something that is surely no longer needed for a master of genre literature in 2019.  Nor does the blurb&#8217;s lurch into clueless comparisons reassure the potential buyer: Stephen King, the Oxford Lovecraft edition (<a href=\"http:\/\/stjoshi.org\/review_luckhurst.html\">very questionable<\/a>), and an apparent Oxford edition of Clark Ashton Smith&#8230; but where <em>is<\/em> that last item?  Perhaps the blurb writer was thinking of the Penguin Classics edition.<\/p>\n<p>Yet if one can get past the blurb <em>and<\/em> the flippant cover-art, then clicks the &#8216;Look Inside&#8217;&#8230; the actual table-of-contents reassures.<\/p>\n<p>Time for the journal&#8217;s editors to have a few words with their publisher, I&#8217;d suggest, about how the journal should be marketed and presented for sale.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also another new journal on one of the greats, whose &#8216;poetry with a pen&#8217; was of a different sort.  The latest issue (#77) of the high-quality <a href=\"http:\/\/twomorrows.com\/index.php?main_page=product_info&amp;cPath=98_57&amp;products_id=1416\"><em>Jack Kirby Collector<\/em> journal<\/a> is a &#8220;Monsters and Bugs&#8221; special issue&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/kirbycoll77bugs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/kirbycoll77bugs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31810\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>100 pages in colour, for just $10.95.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest edition of The New Ray Bradbury Review, No. 6, 2019 is on Bradbury&#8217;s horror.
