The camera looks between rooms and across a corridor, and thus into the tiny <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.brown.edu\/ladd\/2018\/11\/27\/clock-vaults\/\">Clock Vault<\/a> room.  The need for a sealed room, constant temperature, and thick insulation for this room might remind one of Lovecraft&#8217;s story &#8220;Cool Air&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/ladd13-clock-vault.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/ladd13-clock-vault.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"310\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-26362\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the same blog, even more Lovecraftian is a 1930s picture of the chemical battery cells that powered the Observatory&#8217;s telegraph system&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/ladd-telegraphy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/ladd-telegraphy.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"350\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-26368\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new photograph of the interior of the Ladd Observatory, a place which Lovecraft knew very well.
