Lovecraft&#8217;s &#8220;The Call of Cthulhu&#8221;, and &#8220;The Dream Snake&#8221; by Robert E. Howard.  The .CBZ (&#8216;Comic Book Zip&#8217;) is the best option re: quality, rather than the over-compressed PDF. It can be opened with any Comic Book Reader software or a PDF reader software that supports the format (such as SumatraPDF).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/call.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/call.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"527\" height=\"747\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25029\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The following issue had no reader response, with the Eyrie covering the January issue.  This includes a letter from Lovecraft&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/2019-04-25_084711.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/2019-04-25_084711.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"181\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25035\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The issue in which readers first responded to &#8220;Cthulhu&#8221;, presumably April 1928, is not yet online. [<em>Update: it <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/WeirdTalesV11N04192804sasIfcIbc\/page\/n139\">now is<\/a> but proves to have only the most vapid and very slight mentions of &#8220;Cthulhu&#8221;<\/em>].  But <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/WeirdTalesV11N05192805\/page\/n135\">May 1928 is<\/a>, with responses from R.E. Howard and others. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/2019-04-25_085138.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/2019-04-25_085138.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"434\" height=\"215\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25036\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/2019-04-25_085212.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/2019-04-25_085212.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"507\" height=\"231\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25037\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Wright to follow this with the cheap shocker &#8220;The Lurking Fear&#8221; might seem something of a clunky editorial decision. But probably he feared an adverse reader reaction among the bulk of his readers, and thus thought that a more conventional &#8220;shocker&#8221; might restore Lovecraft to good standing with them.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>&#8220;Cthulhu&#8221; had also been trailed in the January 1928 issue, thus&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/trailedjan1928-wt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/trailedjan1928-wt.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"492\" height=\"750\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25091\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New on Archive.org, Weird Tales, February 1928.
