P. Lovecraft&#8217;s <em>The Hound and Other Stories<\/em> (2017).  163 pages in English translation. Noted manga artist Tanabe adapts three Lovecraft stories, &#8220;The Temple&#8221;, &#8220;The Hound&#8221;, and &#8220;The Nameless City&#8221;.  There are done as faithful adaptations with strong historical research on how costumes and objects looked.  &#8216;Faithful&#8217;, in the case of &#8220;The Nameless City&#8221;, will probably be interpreted by action-avid comics readers as &#8216;very slow and dull&#8217;.  But for others it may be just the ticket.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Temple&#8221; is here shifted forward in time to the Second World War, and may be especially interesting to readers of the British <em>Commando<\/em> comics who are feeling starved of the supernatural in this long-running war comics series (<em>Castle of Fear<\/em> and <em>A Soldier&#8217;s Luck<\/em> being about as supernatural as we&#8217;ve had it, so far).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/temple-wwi-lovecraft.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/temple-wwi-lovecraft.jpg?w=212\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-19108\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Update: the UK Amazon now has a page for it but suggests the Kindle release has been put back a month, until December.
