A new all-terrain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgc.umn.edu\/projects\/the-reference-elevation-model-of-antarctica-release-1\/\">height-map of Antarctica<\/a> has just been released, with a mapping resolution that&#8217;s high enough to spot one of Lovecraft&#8217;s Star-Headed Old Ones and possibly even to count the number of points on his star (2m resolution in rocky parts). There&#8217;s a Google-Maps-like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/View\/index.html?appid=86a9728459aa4d18b4444b74d330832e\/\">Web Viewer<\/a> of this summer 2015-16 snapshot of the mighty continent&#8217;s terrain. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/website_rema_test-825x500.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/oldimages\/website_rema_test-825x500.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"321\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-16896\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Presumably the data sets will soon be loaded to the main 3D terrain download service <a href=\"https:\/\/terrain.party\/\">TerrainParty<\/a>, which is free and public, from where you&#8217;ll be able to get it with relative ease to creative 3D landscape software such as Vue, Terragen, World Creator Pro etc.  And you can then create any true-life vista of Antarctica you want, without risk of frost-bite or shoggoth attack.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This may be of interest to Lovecraft artists who use 3D.
