Amazingly, apparently this has been&#8230; &#8220;a controversial question for more than two millennia&#8221;.  Turns out they glow <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cell.com\/current-biology\/abstract\/S0960-9822%2815%2900160-8\">to entice horrible eight-legged buzzing night-crawlers<\/a> out of the gloomy windless forest, to feast upon their dripping flesh.
