{"id":1326,"date":"2010-09-02T07:36:21","date_gmt":"2010-09-02T04:36:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tentaclii.wordpress.com\/?p=1326"},"modified":"2010-09-02T07:36:21","modified_gmt":"2010-09-02T04:36:21","slug":"alan-moore-on-lovecraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jurn.link\/tentaclii\/index.php\/2010\/09\/02\/alan-moore-on-lovecraft\/","title":{"rendered":"Alan Moore on Lovecraft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A substantial <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theskinny.co.uk\/article\/100258-choose-your-reality-alan-moore-unearthed\">new Alan Moore interview<\/a> in <em>The Skinny<\/em> today, which has chunky sections on Lovecraft and Moore&#8217;s new graphic novel <em>Neonomicon<\/em>, which is set in Moore&#8217;s modern-day version of Lovecraft&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurn.link\/tentaclii\/index.php\/2010\/08\/27\/10-stories-set-in-red-hook-ny\/\">Red Hook<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI wanted to do a story that modernised Lovecraft [ and via a blending with a police procedural approach ] actually put back some of the objectionable elements that Lovecraft himself censored, or that people since Lovecraft, who have been writing pastiches, have decided to leave out. Like the racism, the anti-Semitism, the sexism, the sexual phobias [&#8230;] It is one of the most unpleasant stories I have ever written. It certainly wasn&#8217;t intended as my farewell to comics, but that is perhaps how it has ended up. It is one of the blackest, most misanthropic pieces that I\u2019ve ever done. I was in a very, very bad mood.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;why is Cthulhu [&#8230;] humanoid? This is one of the questions we answer in the course of <em>Neonomicon<\/em>.
