This has chapters or sub-chapters on: melancholic pronouns in <em>The Lord of the Rings<\/em>; Eowyn disguising herself as Dernhelm; and grief\/death in relation to Luthien and Arwen. Freely available online. <\/p>\n<p>* Some more details about the coming screen series <a href=\"https:\/\/bccircuit.com\/20144\/features\/forge-of-friendship-an-engrossing-upcoming-series-exploring-the-relationship-between-c-s-lewis-and-j-r-r-tolkien\/\">&#8220;Forge of Friendship&#8221;<\/a>. Set to be&#8230; &#8220;five hour-long documentaries&#8221; with interviews, music and re-enactments, exploring the friendship of Lewis and Tolkien&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThere is no set release date, but we are moving into post-production.\u201d When asked, the [filmmakers, after showing a one-hour preview cut] said \u201cWe are waiting on more funding, but it could potentially be released this year.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>* <em>The Independent Review<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proquest.com\/openview\/76153b8ad1b8606dac47c7936275b222\/1\">reviews <em>Tolkien, Philosopher of War<\/em><\/a> (2024).<\/p>\n<p>* Apparently set for publication by De Gruyter in June 2026, according to Amazon UK, <em>Tolkien Spirituality: Constructing Belief and Tradition in Fiction-based Religion<\/em>. Possibly just a printing of <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarlypublications.universiteitleiden.nl\/handle\/1887\/29078\">this 2014 open-access Phd thesis<\/a>, but I guess there&#8217;s a chance it could be an updated and expanded version for print?  By the same author, <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarlypublications.universiteitleiden.nl\/handle\/1887\/4208954?solr_nav%5Bid%5D=b5c422549f5a1e035282&#038;solr_nav%5Bpage%5D=1&#038;solr_nav%5Boffset%5D=7\">&#8220;Religious uses of fantasy fiction&#8221;<\/a>, an open-access chapter for the <em>Routledge Handbook of Fiction and Belief<\/em> (2023).<\/p>\n<p>* <em>Midland History<\/em> journal has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/0047729X.2026.2634562?af=R\">a review of the book <em>C.S. Lewis\u2019s Oxford<\/em><\/a> (2024) ($ paywall). As a Midlander I&#8217;ve never thought of Oxford as being in the English Midlands, but it squeezes in here.<\/p>\n<p>* Seemingly popping out of embargo this week at a university repository, <a href=\"https:\/\/eprints.glos.ac.uk\/791\/\">&#8220;Tolkien and Trees&#8221;<\/a>, a book chapter from 2013.<\/p>\n<p>* Tolkien artist Miriam Ellis is anticipating&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miriamellis.com\/post\/wood-hall-in-the-woody-end-a-curious-place-in-the-shire\">&#8220;my forthcoming book, <em>A Shire Walking-Party&#8221;<\/em><\/a> and a new blog post gives a preview of her thoughts on the appearance of Woodhall.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conferencesthatwork.com\/index.php\/writing-2\/2026\/03\/day-i-saw-tolkien-summon-henry\/\">&#8220;Oxford, Physics, and the Day I Saw Tolkien Summon Henry&#8221;<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;In the fall of 1970, I arrived at Oxford University as a first-term undergraduate reading physics at Merton College. [&#8230;] I would often see J.R.R. Tolkien wandering around the College in his half-cloak, walking stick in hand.
