Eleven chapters including, in English, Thomas Honegger&#8217;s &#8220;From Old English <em>orcneas<\/em> to George MacDonald\u2019s Goblins with Soft Feet: Sources of Inspiration and Models for Tolkien\u2019s Orcs from English Literature&#8221;. A key example of the &#8220;Old English&#8221; of the title is found <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/the-tale-of-beowulf\/page\/n15\/mode\/2up\">in <em>Beowulf<\/em><\/a> (c. 710 A.D), which talks of&#8230; <em>&#8220;eotenas ond ylfe ond orcneas&#8221;<\/em> (&#8216;thence awoke all evil offspring, ettins and elf and orcs, also giants&#8217;).<\/p>\n<p>* In Portuguese, the book <em><a href=\"https:\/\/repositorio.ulisboa.pt\/entities\/publication\/2d5386da-bb03-4c55-8556-d663258ad1ee\">J.R.R. Tolkien: construtor de mundos. Personagens, lugares e adaptacoes. Vol 1.<\/a><\/em> (2023). This is officially freely available online. Freely available online.<\/p>\n<p>* A new open Reddit attempt to track down <a href=\"https:\/\/old.reddit.com\/r\/tolkienfans\/comments\/1osnv2n\/all_silmarillion_references_in_lotr\/\">all <em>Silmarillion<\/em> references and allusions in <em>LoTR<\/em><\/a>. Offhand I don&#8217;t recall any other attempt to do this. I&#8217;ve checked the <em>Reader&#8217;s Companion<\/em> book (i.e. the annotated <em>LoTR<\/em>) just now, but that only has the general index, offering about 30 page numbers under the heading of <em>Silmarillion<\/em> (book).<\/p>\n<p>* The <em>Angmar Archives<\/em> podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XkfCr2nyHrc\">has a long interview<\/a> with the maker of the new artbook <em>Doomed To Die: An A-Z of Death in Tolkien<\/em>. Freely available on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>* New to me, Tolkien&#8217;s hobbit poem &#8220;Oliphaunt&#8221; was issued as a standalone children&#8217;s picturebook in 1989, of the &#8220;stiff boards, for small kids who might tear normal paper&#8221; type of picturebook.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/spyders\/wp-content\/uploads\/tolk-oli.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/spyders\/wp-content\/uploads\/tolk-oli.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/spyders\/wp-content\/uploads\/tolk-oli.jpg 750w, https:\/\/jurn.link\/spyders\/wp-content\/uploads\/tolk-oli-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>* And finally, talking of near-mythical animals&#8230; news of rare big-screen outings for the extended Director&#8217;s Cut of the <em>LoTR<\/em> movies. The &#8220;special one-night-only event will feature the remastered extended edition&#8221; of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amctheatres.com\/movies\/lord-of-the-rings-the-fellowship-of-the-ring-2026-event-82003\">Fellowship<\/a><\/em>, then <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amctheatres.com\/movies\/lord-of-the-rings-the-two-towers-2026-event-82008\">Two Towers<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amctheatres.com\/movies\/lord-of-the-rings-return-of-the-king-2026-event-82006\">Return of the King<\/a><\/em>.
