The whole programme is about Tolkien\u2019s inspirations from Finland&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>* Tom Shippey&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/uppsalabooks.com\/\">Uppsala Books<\/a> launches their new translation of <em>Waltharius<\/em>, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FPnIdDlrezc\">a short Tom Shippey YouTube interview<\/a> on&#8230; <em>&#8220;Waltharius<\/em>, <em>Beowulf<\/em>, Tolkien, and Viking humour&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p>* A short five-week online course on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesymbolicworld.com\/courses\/tolkien-and-universal-history\">Tolkien and Universal History<\/a>, starting 24th February 2025. The course will be&#8230; <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;examining the Legendarium as an attempt at a work of Universal History, one which uses both ancient and modern storytelling genres to reconcile conflicting visions of English, European, and Western identity.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>* A new <em>Road to Emmaus<\/em> podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.listennotes.com\/podcasts\/the-road-to-emmaus\/explaining-tolkiens-j9X7IEpRe4c\/\">Explaining Tolkien&#8217;s Liturgical Imagination, with Dr. Ben Reinhard<\/a>, discussing&#8230; &#8220;how J.R.R. Tolkien&#8217;s works differ from C.S. Lewis in how they teach and influence their readers.&#8221; See also the new <a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.valpo.edu\/journaloftolkienresearch\/vol20\/iss2\/2\/\">review of the book <em>The Songs of the Spheres: Lewis, Tolkien and the Overlapping Realms of their Imaginations<\/em><\/a> (2024).<\/p>\n<p>* On the same theme, Hillsdale College has the new blog post <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinecoursesblog.hillsdale.edu\/of-sorcerers-and-scientists-middle-earth-and-the-space-trilogy\/\">&#8220;Of Sorcerers and Scientists: Middle-earth and The Space Trilogy&#8221;<\/a>, briefly noting the similarities between Tolkien&#8217;s villains and those of C.S. Lewis. <\/p>\n<p>* <em>Idiosophy<\/em> uses a computer program for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idiosophy.com\/2024\/12\/measuring-alliterative-structure-in-a-text\/\">&#8220;Measuring alliterative structure in a text&#8221;<\/a>. Specifically applying it to &#8220;Mounds of Mundberg&#8221; and Gimli&#8217;s chant-song in the dark halls of Moria.<\/p>\n<p>* And finally, <em>Country Life<\/em> magazine reports that the UK&#8217;s special shaggy breed of Exmoor moorland ponies has been introduced to New Zealand, where a pure-bred stallion and mares are now thriving and breeding. The tough and versatile breed is well suited to the varied New Zealand upland terrain, but apparently they haven&#8217;t had such beasts before.
