March. &#8220;I accompanied Mr. Dugdale in his Visitations of Staffordshire and Derbyshire.&#8221; [Note: &#8220;Ashmole\u2019s notes made on this Visitation are preserved in MS. Rylands, e 27.]&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This followed his 1652 <em>Noates in my Peake Journey<\/em> into the Peak District. Which I see are now online with annotations&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/spyders\/oldimages\/peak-visit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/spyders\/oldimages\/peak-visit.jpg?w=417\" alt=\"\" width=\"417\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-15809\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mostly the names of things and the diet of the people. But also an interesting naming of &#8220;Wagge of Wetton, the Staffordshire astrologer&#8221;, and at Dove bridge he met a diviner called Thompson who seems to have used a &#8216;call&#8217; made under the bridge as a method of divination.
