* In The Oxford Mail<\/em> newspaper, the report “J.R.R. Tolkien memorial unveiled in Oxford by Neil Gaiman”<\/a>. Freely available online.<\/p>\n

* New on YouTube, the talk “A Grandson’s Reflections on J.R.R. Tolkien” (Michael G. Tolkien)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

* Also new on YouTube, one of the Oxford 50 series of talks, “Tolkien and the Anglo-Saxon Calendar”<\/a>.<\/p>\n

* The annual Muriel Fuller Endowment for the Imagination and the Arts<\/a> public lecture, now on YouTube. This year, “George MacDonald and the Prophetic Imagination”<\/a>. Part of the Celebrating George MacDonald<\/a> 2024 bicentenary events.<\/p>\n

* A new repository record-page for “Tolkien, Shakespeare, Trees, and The Lord of the Rings”<\/em><\/a>, a 2024 article from the scholarly journal The Explicator<\/em>. Partly funded by the EU, and thus it looks like a one-year embargo (with a public download in September 2025).<\/p>\n

* Public donations are invited to support the annual J.R.R. Tolkien Lecture on Fantasy Literature<\/a> at Pembroke College, Oxford.<\/p>\n

* New to me, The Inquisitive Biologist<\/em> blog reviewed The Science of Middle-Earth: A New Understanding of Tolkien and His World<\/em><\/a> (2021).<\/p>\n

* The forthcoming U.S. conference Mythmoot XI: ‘The Resilience of Imagination’<\/a> now has a PDF of the presentation abstracts<\/a>. Many Tolkien papers, and among these I especially noted “The Resilience of Imagination in Modern Academia: Tolkien as Master of the \u201cNon-traditional Research Output”.<\/p>\n

* And finally, a talk + gig which happened a few days ago, titled “Forged In Mount Doom: J.R.R. Tolkien And The Birth Of Heavy Metal”<\/a>. The talk was by “Dr. April Henry, professor of German Studies at Duke University”. Supported by a ‘black metal’ (heavy metal) band, and a maker of doomy ‘dungeon synth’ electronica. <\/p>\n
