This time it&#8217;s the Italian book <em><a href=\"https:\/\/etereaedizioni.com\/product\/paesaggi-della-terra-di-mezzo-la-natura-nelle-opere-di-j-r-r-tolkien\/\">Paesaggi della Terra di Mezzo: La Natura nelle opere di Tolkien<\/a><\/em> (2021) (&#8216;Landscapes of Middle-earth: Nature in the works of Tolkien&#8217;). From Eterea Edizioni in 266 pages, it appears to be a brisk and systematic trot through most the well-known regions of Middle-earth. Plus some specific looks at&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; The gardens of the Shire;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; Goldberry&#8217;s flowers;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; In white, green and gold: the colours of the Rohirrim;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; Ithilien between permanence of the past and resistance to change;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; The deserts of Sauron;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; <em>Hortus Conclusus<\/em>, body and soul care in the healing garden;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; On the Istari and their staffs;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; The stars and celestial objects.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/spyders\/oldimages\/covernat.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/spyders\/oldimages\/covernat.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"631\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13243\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>* I see that the book&#8217;s publisher Eterea Edizioni also has a themed scholarly Tolkien journal in Italian, currently at issue #3. <a href=\"https:\/\/etereaedizioni.com\/product\/i-quaderni-di-arda-1\/\">#1: Tolkien and the Fourth Age<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/etereaedizioni.com\/product\/i-quaderni-di-arda-2\/\">#2: Tolkien and Translation<\/a>; and <a href=\"https:\/\/etereaedizioni.com\/product\/i-quaderni-di-arda-3-beowulf-a-oxford-lo-stile-letterario-di-tolkien\/\">#3: Beowulf in Oxford: Tolkien&#8217;s Literary Style<\/a>. This last is the latest 2022\/23 edition. Looking though the auto-translated contents lists I see, among others&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; #1. &#8220;Make It Modern! Tolkien, Pound and the Search for the Lost Eden&#8221;; &#8220;Tolkien and Yeats: With Mythology to Meet the Challenge of Immortality&#8221;; and &#8220;Re-enchanting an Unenchanted World: Tolkien and Lovecraft&#8221;.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; #2. &#8220;The Name of The Map: Cartographic Translations of the World of Tolkien&#8221; and &#8220;What meteor, that night, came down&#8221;: Tolkien and the Victorian Man-in-the-Moon&#8221;.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; #3. &#8220;Like A Beat: The Rhythm of <em>The Lord of the Rings<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>I see that Eterea Edizioni are also partners in the forthcoming Italian conference &#8216;The Animals of Middle-earth&#8217;, set for 21st-23rd July 2023.<\/p>\n<p>* At Mount Saint Vincent University, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msvu.ca\/dr-anna-smol-receives-award-for-research-excellence\/\">&#8220;Dr. Anna Smol receives award for research excellence&#8221;<\/a> for her work in Tolkien scholarship. Mentioned in the news release is her relatively new <a href=\"https:\/\/tolkienalliterative.ca\/\">Tolkien and Alliterative Verse<\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p>* And finally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stokeandnewcastleramblers.org.uk\/all-local-walks.html\">Stoke-on-Trent &amp; Newcastle-under-Lyme Ramblers<\/a> will be walking the &#8220;Tolkien Trail &amp; Great Haywood&#8221; (10 miles) on Thursday, 19th October 2023.
