He is also a curator of local ecological knowledge &mdash; he knows the landscape of the Shire, and he knows how <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.tolkiensociety.org\/mallorn\/article\/download\/322\/306\">the flora and fauna<\/a> of the Shire are distributed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>* <em>British Fairies<\/em> has another post in a long series. This New Year&#8217;s Day post notes some of the uses that writers have made of lore of <a href=\"https:\/\/britishfairies.wordpress.com\/2023\/01\/01\/like-long-barrow-sleepers\/\">&#8216;long-barrow sleepers&#8217;<\/a> in the British landscape. On 24th-25th February 2023&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>we explore ways that literature brings old friends together, helps us make new friends and continues the long friendship of minds from ancient times into the present and for the future.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>* News of the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inklings.ovgu.de\/en\/\">Inklings Symposium 2023<\/a> in Germany. Papers can be in either German or English, and the deadline is 31st January 2023, for&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>the annual symposium of the Inklings Society for Literature and Aesthetics [from] 29th April to 1st May at Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, [with] the theme &#8216;Defying Death: Immortality and Rebirth in the Fantastic&#8217;.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>* News of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfplist.com\/nemla\/Home\/S\/19804\">conference panel<\/a> on the theme of &#8220;the functions of relics and ruins in Middle-earth&#8221;.
