“Ents, Sacred Groves, and the Cost of Desecration”<\/a>. (Some discussion of sacred groves and the scholarly debates about pre-Christian animism and sacred trees. Unaware that Tolkien’s personal tutor at Oxford was one of the world’s great experts on animist ethnology).<\/p>\n

“(Classical) Narratives of Decline in Tolkien”<\/a>. (A small typo on the dating… “Tolkien had an extensive training in Classics at King Edward’s School (KES), the prestigious grammar school that he attended from 1900 to 1910” — he was actually there until the end of July 1911).<\/p>\n
