Google has a new &#8220;Verbatim&#8221; option, which bypasses the appallingly dumb second-guessing that gives results that assume <a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2011\/10\/30\/google-searchs-second-guessing-of-search-terms\/\">&#8220;and&#8221; is what you meant when you typed &#8220;India&#8221;<\/a>, or that &#8220;biography&#8221; is what you meant when you typed &#8220;bibliography&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>With Verbatim turned on, we&#8217;ll use the literal words you entered without making improvements such as&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>* making automatic spelling corrections<\/p>\n<p>* personalizing your search by using information such as sites you\u2019ve visited before<\/p>\n<p>* including synonyms of your search terms (matching \u201ccar\u201d when you search [automotive])<\/p>\n<p>* finding results that match similar terms to those in your query (finding results related to \u201cfloral delivery\u201d when you search [flower shops])<\/p>\n<p>* searching for words with the same stem like \u201crunning\u201d when you\u2019ve typed [run]<\/p>\n<p>* making some of your terms optional, like \u201ccirca\u201d in [the scarecrow circa 1963]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2012\/01\/gverbatim.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"gverbatim\" width=\"356\" height=\"851\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7008\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Great though this is to see, it confirms that people who actually want to do proper search are now second-class citizens in the Googlesphere.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new Google feature you might have missed in the rush to Christmas.
