A new edition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.velly.org\/Erik_Desmazieres.html\">Desmazieres<\/a>&#8216;s three-volume catalogue raisonne will be published by the Fitch-Febvrel Gallery later in 2011.  The last few copies of the original three-volume set are available <a href=\"http:\/\/www.warnockfinearts.com\/Erik-Desmazieres.htm\">at Warnock Fine Arts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2011\/02\/1.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"1\" width=\"490\" height=\"352\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6405\" \/><br \/>\nBorges&#8217; <em>The Library of Babel: The Salon of the Planets<\/em> (1998)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2011\/02\/borgesdesmazieres2.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"borgesdesmazieres2\" width=\"490\" height=\"667\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6406\" \/><br \/>\nBorges&#8217; <em>The Library of Babel: Upper Circular Gallery<\/em> (1998)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2011\/02\/desmazieres-libraire_paul_jammes.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"desmazieres-libraire_paul_jammes\" width=\"490\" height=\"343\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6407\" \/><em>La Librairie Paul Jammes<\/em> (2000)<\/p>\n<p>And a picture that appears to exemplify the influences on Desmazieres, Boullee&#8217;s <em>Project for a Royal Library<\/em> (1785)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2011\/02\/boullee.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"boullee\" width=\"490\" height=\"306\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6408\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d also surmise that he may have been led to such work by having grown up reading French graphic novels such as <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Les_Cit%C3%A9s_Obscures\">Les Cites Obscures<\/a><\/em> (1983, partly expanded as a &#8216;director&#8217;s cut&#8217; in the mid 2000s, and partly published in English in 2004)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2011\/02\/3153695571_40fd14c400_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"3153695571_40fd14c400_z\" width=\"462\" height=\"640\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6409\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some of the &#8216;library pictures&#8217; of the French artist Erik Desmazieres.
