{"id":23272,"date":"2020-01-17T05:34:15","date_gmt":"2020-01-17T04:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jurnsearch.wordpress.com\/?p=23272"},"modified":"2020-01-17T05:34:15","modified_gmt":"2020-01-17T04:34:15","slug":"back-on-the-menu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/index.php\/2020\/01\/17\/back-on-the-menu\/","title":{"rendered":"Back on the menu&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another useful Google UserScript that works in 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/greasyfork.org\/en\/scripts\/391645-fixed-order-google-categories\">Fixed Order Google Categories<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>This cryptically-named December 2019 script puts the Google top menu-bar into the following order, and prevents Google from pushing items around or pushing sales-oriented items forwards&#8230;  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Before:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2020\/01\/before.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2020\/01\/before.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"103\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-23281\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>After:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2020\/01\/topbar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2020\/01\/topbar.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"62\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-23273\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can then also very easily edit the script to remove &#8220;Shopping&#8221;, &#8220;Flights&#8221;, &#8220;Finance&#8221;, while having &#8220;Books&#8221; on the main menu. These items are still available if needed, but are hidden under &#8220;More&#8221; along with a &#8220;Books&#8221; duplicate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Custom:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2020\/01\/topbarfixed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2020\/01\/topbarfixed.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"92\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-23274\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new addition of &#8220;Books&#8221; happily passes through the search query as usual.  Note that &#8220;Jurn&#8221; is being added here via my own additional script, and that &#8220;Videos&#8221; is also gone as I never use it.<\/p>\n<p>So, now Google is fully &#8220;fixed up&#8221; again for me, following the demise of GoogleMonkeyR.  With a slight toning down of the background colour, this is what it looks like for me in January 2020. The gaps being Google Hit Hider in action&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2020\/01\/search2020.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2020\/01\/search2020.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"290\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-23287\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>All &#8216;auto-suggestions&#8217; and &#8216;quick answers&#8217; panels and similar junk removed, and just the search results left. No images anywhere, except in the search results from &#8220;Images&#8221;.  Robust blocking via Google Hit Hider.
