{"id":11715,"date":"2014-12-24T10:31:09","date_gmt":"2014-12-24T09:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jurnsearch.wordpress.com\/?p=11715"},"modified":"2014-12-24T10:31:09","modified_gmt":"2014-12-24T09:31:09","slug":"it-takes-an-aeon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/index.php\/2014\/12\/24\/it-takes-an-aeon\/","title":{"rendered":"It takes an Aeon&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Aeon<\/em> magazine has a very nice new <a href=\"http:\/\/aeon.co\/magazine\/philosophy\/are-retraction-wars-a-sign-that-science-is-broken\/\">Save to Instapaper<\/a> drop-down on its articles, which might usefully be copied by ejournals offering articles in HTML.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2014\/12\/saveinsta.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jurn.link\/jurnsearch\/2014\/12\/saveinsta.jpg?w=529\" alt=\"saveinsta\" width=\"529\" height=\"375\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11716\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Compare the blissful ease of doing this with the impossibility of saving <em>Digital Arts<\/em> magazine&#8217;s new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalartsonline.co.uk\/news\/creative-business\/creative-trends-2015-20-leading-designers-artists\/\">2015 creative trends survey<\/a> article to Instapaper.  Impossible because of the database-driven URL structure, which loathsomely uses ? in the URL to spawn a new page hanging off of a static URL. I ended up having to copy-paste to a .txt file and then used Amazon&#8217;s Send to Kindle desktop software. I guess <em>Digital Arts<\/em> are assuming their younger clear-eyed readers are going straight to the page on an iPad, rather than needing the &#8216;old-eyes friendly&#8217; font-scaling on a Kindle.<\/p>\n<p>No mention of this <em>Aeon<\/em> button on the Instapaper official blog in 2014, so I&#8217;m guessing it&#8217;s custom to the editors, probably wrapped up in a WordPress widget or similar.
